That's great! I don't blame you for being excited. We don't have chickens now. But a few yrs ago Mom had one and she came in one nt all torn up. Mom babied her and she used to sleep in a box on the porch. She layed double yolks sometimes, but sometimes her eggs would just be huge and only one yolk. But eventually, I guess the foxes got her too, she disappeared. I love the yolk, so the double ones are great. We get home eggs from my 2 sisters. Love them so much better than the store eggs.

I love raising chickens. My new hubby is very social with strangers. Through his "random social escapades" (as I like to call them) he landed us an egg account at a local discount bakery. So now we will always have our own eggs to eat (yummy, the best) and we are also making a small amount of money selling our little treasures. We have 15 hens right now. And 30 chicks who will be ready to lay in June. My boys will earn $$ every week by helping me clean and collect eggs. My older son has landed a few customers for us too. I made the deal that if he helps maintain the chickens with me and finds others to buy eggs he can keep the cash for the people he sells to. He likes this.....now he is doing the math.."how many dozen would I have to sell to buy myself the next video game?" Next we might get a rooster. Ours was a Sunday morning brunch for the farmer's dog.

I think it is awesome that he is getting involved. Summer(my oldest) just grumbles about helping(even when I tell her "If you will quit grumbling and just help I will let you keep 'X' amount" Yeah- she is too much of a Diva to clean chicken poo She does it anyway, but since she complains so much- she generally does not get paid for it. Sounds like you have a couple "good eggs"

Oh Wow! Congratulations on landing an account with a business to sell your eggs to! That is what I want to do, where I live. I have several customers I sell eggs to. I always give a free doz if one of my customers gets a new customer for me. they like that deal! So how did your Hubby get the bakery to buy form you? Can you give me some pointers? We have a bakery here too that I'd like to go talk to about buying eggs from me. Way to go! We have 24 hens. My DD ,who is 3.5 yrs. old helps me with the chickens too. Might as well start them out young, that "chores" are fun to do!

MickyG...I am sorry...I dont really have any pointers for you. Sorry! He is just is a very social person and struck up a conversation with the right dude! BUT, I will tell you one small thing. We listed our future eggs on Craigs List in our state and was contacted by a resturaunt who might be interested in buying as much as we can get from our girls. Not sure I will go that way. Sounds kinda demanding. I think I might just stick to this local guy's bakery. (for now) Have you tried Craigs List in your state....or any other free trading or advertising sites? If not I would look into that. Good luck!!
Your right, getting them started young is great. I do get alot of grief when there are better things for them to be doing....but I am a one woman army....and I point out that I CANT do it all. So get your tiny butts in the coop and get cleaning!!!! They feel better after. Cant wait till this summer when they have 45 chickens to help clean up after.....lol.

Ah Craig's list, I know of it, but have never checked it out. I will do that today. Thanks! Guess I'll just have to go into our local bakery and welcome them to town (New owners) Maybe something will start from there.
