Sorry for your troubles with the racoons. If it makes you feel any better we are having some of the same issues too. You can find hubby and I, any given night, outside as late as 11pm with a gun. Sucks cause we are shooting them outta a tree too. As soon as they see us, they climb. As for another way to get rid of them, sorry, cant help out there. More than sure someone has a solution though. Good luck with those critters.

If you get mad enough, and there are not other animals (or your own pets) that are a problem ... there's always anti freeze with Ethylene Glycol. Sprinkle in so whole kernal corn or dogfood as a lure and the raccoons dissappear.
Yeah I know ... CRUEL ... Just like D-con for rats. I lost two years of sweet corn. They came in one night both years and destroyed the whole patch. I didn't get one ear. I got pissed.

About 2 years ago..someone gave us a grown male Great Pyrenese dog. He is super friendly and loving to the kids..but he keeps all coons, possums, weasels, minks,..ANYTHING that moves away from my chickens everynight!! AND as a bonus, he doesn't bother the chickens or my cats or my little wienee dog!! The only downside to him is that he does like to "hose" down my car tires every chance he gets.

I think a liitle 'hosing' is better then losing the chickens. Sounds like a good watch dog. He knows who his phamily is,

I have had good results removing PROBLEM coons with a hav-a-hart trap, but nothing will get rid off all of the coons. The coons from surounding areas will move in to take their place.
On the GOOD side, not every coon is a problem!
I bait the trap with dry cat food: I DID catch my son's cat once but after that he stayed clear of the trap!
I will not tell you what to do with any trapped coons. Some people say that you should kill them to prevent them from being a problem for somebody else.
I WILL say that IF you relocate them to take them far away and across a barrier like a river or a freeway: coons are excellent travelors and you will not want them back the next day!!!!!!!!!!! Because, like my son's cat, they will probably not walk into a trap again!

A friend of ours does a little coon hunting and every once in a while he needs a coon to train his dogs with. He sets a live trap in my woods and he always baits his with a honey bun. He catches one every time..I have heard to use sardines but the coons around here seem to have a sweet tooth.

Trying to catch a few myself. Set spring traps and put some bread out as bait. They used a slice a bread tyo set the trap off. And to show me they don't like dark bread they only ate a couple a slices. Did get one in a live trap but he sure bent it up. Used canned shimp as bait.

I did find something that works at the local Farm and Home store. They recommended it. It's called "Fly Bait". I put it in with some fishy smelling catfood, locked all my pets up and Serprise I had a dead coon the next day. I did this for 3 nights and haven't been bothered since. It kills them fast! I hate to kill em, cause I think they are cute, but they are trouble. I've also stopped throwing out any scraps, (my hubby warned me about this but I didn't listen, as usual. ) The anti-freeze is a slow death from what I've heard. I wanted something fast so they wouldn't suffer. The coon went about 12 feet and died. So now, I'm a happy camper! Also Farm and Home store sells Liquid Fence to keep Deer and Rabbits away, this really works good! No critters in our garden, but I can't say the same for the Liquid Fence Dog and Cat repellant, it didn't work too good, but the deer and rabbit stuff has kept them out of the garden..Maybe I need to spray this around my flowers. It's a natural system that works.

Much like deer, we have a serious overpopulation problem with the raccoons here. Rabies cases are on the rise and getting to be a real problem also. The DNR and Wildlife's policy is NO policy. Unless a human is bitten, DNR, Wildlife and the local health dept. has a strictly "no response" policy. Animal Welfare will only respond to domestic animal calls.
I do like the "Fly Bait" information and will try to find some if I have a garden next year. Just like rats or any pest, there just comes a point where some type of control is necessary.

I love animals as good as the next person..but good grief folks..I haven't noticed any coon feeling compassion when they are dragging my ducks/chickens etc. out piece by piece tearing them through wire and eating them practically alive. We live surrounded by woods and a creek and coons are as thick as thieves around these parts. The dog keeps them pretty much run off, but we also shoot what we can and trap what we (and the dog) can't catch...If we didn't we wouldn't have a domestic critter around no where...not to mention all the garden damage we would suffer. My kids eatin' comes before any coon.

Got two in three days. Got a free live trap at a auction from a friend who got it in a bunch of stuff he bought. It was a plastic tunnel but the metal for the door and trip is much heavier than the one I bought new. The new one has caught one skunk and one coon. Coon really bent the heck outta the new one. The free one just needed to be hosed out and re-baited and its ready to go. Just goes to show that these companies have cheapened every thing up. So remember folks if you are a little long in the tooth, you maybe stronger and tougher than the newer ones. Even if you may move a little slower.

Knock on wood, we haven't had much trouble with raccoons as of yet. Once in a while we hear them havin a spat off in the woods somewhere but that's about it. Rabbits are another story! I'm gonna make us some rabbit stew one of these nights.... I did transplant some marigolds today and I have had some pinwheels in place but it may be too late to save my sweet potatoes. They've eaten of nearly all of the leaves before the slips really had a chance to establish themselves.

to repel rabbits like I said earlier, try the Liquid Fence for deer and rabbits, its works great, there should be someone in your area that would have it, esp. farm stores. So far I've stop the coons!

Came up real quiet and covered it (live trap) with a old blanket and left it for about a half hour. carried it to where I could shoot it. Lifted the blanket and shined a flashlight in tis eyes and shot it. No smell no problems. Seven coons now.
