1 teaspoon of bakers yeast 1/2 cup warm water 2 cups sugar 1 quart hot water 2 teaspoons root beer extract Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water. Dissolve sugar in hot water, Mix these together, dissolved yeast, sugar, and root beer extract, in a gallon size jar. Cover the jar, Set in the sun for four hours, and chill overnite.. will be ready to consume next day... ******************************************* Old Fashioned Root Beer 3 ounces sassafras bark dried 2 ounces sarsaparilla dried 1 1/2 ounces dandelion root dried 1 ounce burdock root dried 1/2 ounce ginger 1/2 ounce of ground cinamon 1/2 ounce orange peel zested Mix these ingrediants together Store in a tightly closed container.. In a seperate large pot combine 1 quart of water and four tablespoons of dry mixture. bring to boil, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain and sweeten with Honey.. Chill overnite. ********************************************

There was a women who lived in the boundy waters of Minnesota, and she made root beer, and people came from miles around just to stop in and sit on her porch sippin her homemade root beer. I wish I would been able to try hers, but I just saw this show on PBS and it was way before my time! *sigh* oh well A & W Root Beer will have to do fer me!

I am gong to try this a soon as i get some sassaprilla, and root beer extract. Sounds really yummy.

I miss the old fashioned A & W drive ins. Those root beer floats were good after a hard day of work. The A & W root beer today just doesn't taste the same.

I remember hitting them drive-ins, It was a better tasting rootbeer... A& W I think still has an extract that they sell..

I have never had homemade rootbeer...I am going to have to try this. I am always looking for something new to try on the husband & kids:) Thanks for the information, it sounds delicious.
