i am not a person to paint color on my walls. but i got a wild hair and painted one wall in the living room a deep sunflower golden color, it looks so nice, i can make it look summery or autumney(sp) ...i found clearance table cloths at walmart for like 6.00 a piece and i used the clip type curtain rings.......i paid 5.00 for the gallon of paint a mistint from lowes(also check sherwin williams, and home depot for mistints...way cheaper....just cuz someone else dont like the color dont mean it aint right for you)...it made an a totally different looking room, good luck in finding the right stuff for you home.

I had been working on window quilt drapes for the utility room. I had finished the door one and it needed some more adjusting the batting in it and I sewed the one for the window and was sewing the strips together for the batting. I got strips of the window quilt batting for .25 at thrift shop. I want to do a curtain for the wash box area. I should have enough pumpkin color drape to make a ruffle on the sheet curtain. The drape was new and .25 at a yard sale. Utility room needs a good cleaning.

a few ideas for ya, use a quilt for a shower curtain, just be sure to use a liner inside the tub. Paint an old window, insert your pictures and hang on your wall. This is more of a country look. I always add black to any room, be it in picture frames or whatever, it's a great accent. Go to the Dollar tree, you'd be surprise as what you can find there and also Big Lots. I found the same lamps there for $12 a piece where Lowes was asking $45! Dillard's had a wrought iron center piece that I loved was not going to pay $75 for it, I bought the same one at Big Lots for $15!

I think I posted this before and it got lost. But Dustin wanted his room done in camo. hunting, fishing. I sd ok, and knew that painting wouldn't be too hard but take a lot of paint. We eventually settled on a lt brown, called firewood. It's not tan, but brown. He wanted one camo wall, we went to wal-mart and bought a camo ground blind for hunting and hung it on the wall. Instant camo wall. We decorated it with shotgun shells, deer antlers, turkey feathers, even hornets nests. We did put up a border that has deer on it. he has a shelf shaped like a boat. We have his guns, knives, machettes, and everything hung up. Then just a couple mo. ago his grandpa built him a bed. It fits his room perfectly. He has a camo sleeping bag for a curtain. It's fleece, so it keeps the lt out. His cousin and her husband made him a sign to hang on the door says "Dustin's Den" and has a bear and tree on it, which matches his sheet set. It turned out great.

Another I posted earlier that got lost. I had my bedroom in our other house done in fishing/nautical decor. It was my haven. I loved my bedroom. It was a one of a kind. Lord, I spent, let me see how much on that room, lol, very little. My Mom made my comforter, curtains, shams. The bedskirt, I got at the thrift store. The walls were decorated with fishing poles. One rod we found in Florida, it was huge, for ocean fishing. Darrell bought one like it with the reel on it for $11 at a yardsale in FL. The guy sd he bought it in the 60's. Then the others where rods that were broken or etc. I had a minnow sing(hope that's the rt way to say it. It's a minnow net with a stick on each end. I bought it for $5 at a yardsale. I covered it with fishing lures, hooks, bobbers, etc, most of which we found at the lake or beach. My brother-in-law, would give me old ones. On another wall, I had a net, and had an old boat paddle, my brother-in-law gave me, I wanted a real life preserver but settled for one from a cheap store, took a WIDE stretchy belt, cut it an put it around it. I always collected the floaters that washed up on the beach from the boats so I had a bunch of them and the rope to hang them on, also found on the beach. I had a foam minnow bucket for a wastebasket. I had a tacklebox for a makeup kit. I had huge seashells my aunt had sent me from Fl and used them on our bedside tables to hold things. I will find the pics and post 'em. If anybody likes the fishing idea. It's really cheap theme.

My kitchen is where I started and I have it done what I can. Had made red and white check curtains. Clips on them. I had 2 red and white pot holders (chocheted) I hunt on the cupboard ends by the window. I put the copper molds (thrift shop buys ) on walk above the heating stove. Has stove pipe but has to be there. One wall window one wall molds and only 7 of them. One wall I have 4 big brass spoon, laddle, skimmer and fork. All this stuff was cheap at the thrift, even the curtains which I had to cut down to fit. Yesterday I bought at thrift shop two rugs that are 28" by 54" so one goes in front of sink and the other in front of stove. Two matching rugs at $6 each and they are heavy cotton woven Indian style. Not the color of my choice but okay. No rubber back stuff ever again. I hated to pay that much. But these are reversable. I still need to paint the island white and the dresser too. Rugs are off white or light gray and mutted colors.
Every thing needs repainting here. But I doubt have it in me to do it. All I bought of that this and last year would be those two rugs and I did buy another rug I have been using in front of sink. I can not remember what I paid for it. But not much.
I need tie my living room colors and dinning room colors in to one thing. My rooms are seperate here but if I move to that rental it will be all one room. Probably will not get to do anything till fall. My re-doing things has not gone very far really.

The 2 tall stools I bought for $1 each I want to varnish the legs . I have one I bought new as I could not find a used one that was stable. Had to have one to eat off the island I had put in the kitchen. (2 kitchen cabinets with a top I added. ) I paid about $20 for it and use all the time. Then I need to make padded tops for them. Legs are not same as one I had but that does not matter to me. Mine has a nice wooden top. I can put pads on all 3 to match. I am debating if I want them removeble to wash or tack to the top. I stuck the two in the shed out of the rain that day. In the way to get in. I need out of there. This island has come in handy as tall enough like counter top. For cooking and cutting materials. If I move it goes with me. That rental the kitchen does not have counter top space. I want to get painted white and the dresser I put in the kitchen is dark brown too and I want it white. Dresser was $5 at a yard sale years ago. War time one I think way it is made. But works. Over years I gotten stuff piece by piece. I am pretty sure I will have to paint the island with Kilz as darkk wood. Not sure it would bleed through. Right now got a coupon for 50% off one item under $30 at the farm store. Not good on fertilizer or fuel and such. I could just get a gas can to use it. Can of that Kilz maybe if they have it. Not sure the price. Other wise I will not buy there. I need shelving in the storage shed. I plan now to buy the units and then I can take with me. I would need them then too. I have some white paint.

I have an old comforter and I plan a duvet cover for it and then can just wash the cover as needed. I have just recovered old quilts.
Got the can of kilz for the island. But so busy packing. Boxes pile all over. Trying to sort and downsize.
I found an off white quilted bed spread upstairs. Looks good and I had not marked the bag for quilt lining. I will take out today or so and put on clothes line and see if anything wrong wth it. nylon or poly one. Got another one in cotton print I need check too. Quilted.
I bought one chair cover and it stretch and lot heavy than I had before. Price was right and not color I would have picked if had a choice. Tan, said wheat. Got to make the stuff tie together and not clash into one room. I can not even find room to set the boxes here. Money wise it will cost lijke heck to move and let alone buy anything.
I have not seen the house and he tells me one window is really wide. Has mini blinds which I do not want to use and she said use now and make the drapes after I move in. I looked at Sears for insulated drapes and they do not stock. Hunting prices. They are on a compyter to order and it sell one panel at the price and takes two make a pair. I want to see what they were. All non washable and coated and such. None lined and they said. So did not get to see anything. Do not need lining as coated. IT is cold there and want the windows clovered. She said the dinning area and livingroom have a wall between. So drapes could be different in the rooms. Not that many to match up. If I can live through this packing and moving. Couple months off yet. Clerk said the fabric store would make drapes and like $1000 a pair. I want lined, insulated drapes and washable. I don;t think I am asking too much. ?
Got to go walk.

I made curtains for my bathroom up north with towels .. you buy them long and flip the top over and it looks like valance .. You can stitch it or use fabric glue. My neighbor did the same thing and she bought towels from the dollar store. you can find stuff at garage sales also , people moving and stuff. I want to change my curtains at home have had these on the windows for 20+ years it is time to change. I may go with drapes this time I have found curtains on sale and cut them up to fit a different window....

Colorado .. .Why not make your own ?? and or by a nice curtain and line it yourself .. Its pretty much like sewing a quilt and may be alot easier if you buy the curtain you want and then get a cheap sheet and or other fabric .

We only have one fabric store left. Out to heck and gone and I would guess by yard is expensive. Walmart would not have. They cut the dept down here but still have one last Dec. I have not been there since due to not driving. There are one that make drapes.
I have 12 pieces of gold drapery material which I washed and it came out okay. They are 44" wide by 8 feet long. One does have stain that did not come out. Some faded edges and I would reverse the material if can. It seems to have a nicer texture on the back. Clay at the AS IS sold it to me cheaper and lining off and headers ripped off. You would pile up your stuff you wanted and he would set a price. If he wanteds rid of it was cheaper. That seems to be the only material I have I could use. I have sister's couple cut drapes and what is still on the bolt. But t is a darkist gray with some design and doubt if washable. None wanted it so gave to me. I have one pair of off white lined (not insulated) wide 72" long drapes. I bought to cover the stairway. Gave $7.50 I think for the pair. They only had one pair. One pair will not do a room with if more than one window. I hunted and hunted back then as old pair on the stairs were coated kind and going to pieces really bad. I figured it could be cheaper to buy made then buy material. And spend days making. DIL said she could not do those for the shop for my son with out help. I helped. stayed over and got the flu from her. That coated material would not sew with her machine. She has much newer machine than me. It would hang up and wrinkle and so on. Yes, I would use white sheets for the back I have and old quilted bedspreads for insulation. I have 4 I know and maybe 2 or 3 more I will quit using and add to the pile.
I can make IF can see and able to do it.

I can not get to the thrift stores anymore, just the local one is this small town. I know that house by pictures has 4 wide windows that look to be at least 4 to 5 feet wide. If it has one wide as son said it wider than that. It takes least 5 yds for a pair. Material runs what $15 ro $20 a yard. For low prices I figure that high and good would be lot more. I paid like $5 a yard last time for some print at Walmart for quilts. I have not price material for long time.
Trying to rip up a made drape and to add the lining . Either cut the top off to get flat if gathered. To have to at least rip the top heading open to get a place to sew the linning on to and the side hems out to sew the linning down the sides. You leave it open at the bottom. Least I do. Lot more work I think than start with yard material. Then I tack the insulation inside to the seams by hand.
I know we spented several days just doing 3 pieces for the back shop windows. Short windows at that. 18 feet I think and did in 3 pieces. All sewed together. He just wanted something to hang over the windows to help keep the cold out. Her machine had a walking foot on it.
I have some material but not enough to do a room. 10 yds of one and I have the bolt of materila my sister bought and she cut off two shorter pairs from it. I do like te color at all. No idea how many yards. But not too many I am sure. I bought 2 pair of red velvet washable drapes and I cut the tops off of one pair. I got for table covers for at craft shows. I woure not red on windows . Are not real big either, My 12 piece of gold would on.ly so 3 pairs for wider windows. Using the stained on too. Pwnnys had some wide and long for $200 a pair or there about. I can not find them listed now and could be not good.
At 80 it is not easy to get things done up fast enough.

what is a batterie candle? How you coming on do the bath room?
I Did a dumb thing to day. Thrift had two pair of off white drapes and I checked and wide and I held up and thought at least 72" and are not 67" it seems. Not sure how long or how many windows in the living room there. DIL is suppose to measure and tell me. Only she said the living and dinning area is not the same room. I know a divider from kitchen to some where. If I cut the heading off it wil shorten the drapes about 3 inches or so. Pinch pleats. If 3 window in that room no good and if to short no good.
Can not turn drape material side ways as is wider than long and has seams and one does not put in cross way seams, only up and down. They are 67 long and 82 wide. I guess I wasted the money inless those windows are only 2 and not to tall. I wanted white but DIL said it would not go with walls. She paints all the rental this one off white color. She said off white drapes be better.

I found out the living room window in the new house is wide. Two windows side by side with only a support between them . 90 inches of glass and that support and that would like 96 inches to cover. I think should be treated as one window. The allowance on each side of the window and back to the wall. I am not a drape maker. You have to spread it out like in quilt making to put them together. Each panels then for a pair needs to be 8 feet wide. Could stand to be a little wider even. They say double the window width at least.
No way to sew in lining and insulate drapes with those pinch pleats. They have to be ripped out to be ripped out to sew to them at the top. if one can see to rip them out with out cutting holes.
Dining room has two wide windows of like 66 each and one in the master bedroom and the kitchen wide one more like 86. There is also a second window in the kitchen but not wide andother in the master bedroom not wide. She did not list if doors had glass. I will ask as that could foul it more. Too much glass for a cold climate there really I think. I am committed to move.
Contrator is not done yet and when is take 6 to 8 weeks to finish it up to move in.
Kids be here in a bit and go to city to shop.

Cant you add in a bit to make longer on top or bottom, maybe a color?
Or would that just look ridiculous?

Personally trying to add to a drape to make longer would not look good to me. And this coated back drapery material does not sew. DIL has a dual feed machine and did not work. You can hem it and as long as the coated side does not touch the machine it sews. She has a lot new machine that I have. I got mine in early 70's so it is old and got a lot of miles on it. Heavy old Pfaff.
So far I can not see a way to sew lining to the sides of the drape.
I would need to rip out the pleats and side seams and part of bottom hem on each side to get to the side seam there. I could leave the stiff header at the top in. Maybe have to rip it up on top both side to rehem the sides. Anyway they are long enough. 57 1/2 tall windows and 2 pair of drapes are 67 long The one big pair is 72.
I can not see any way of getting alining sewed in. Need to be sewed in across the top and down each side. If I could figure a way to get the lining sewed in I can put the insulating stu7ff is side just fine.

A batterie candle is a candle that runs with a batterie I like them because they give off the light like a candle but you don't have the fire. I don't use real candles. They also have them that plug in. I have not finished my bathroom yet we are up north... so well I am not at home to finish it...
