Another place I go we do challenges. It can be a challenge to make x # of christmas ornaments, build x # of birdhouses, make something, do something, by a certain time. I'm bringing this idea and sarting a book challenge. This isn't a high pressure sort of thing. You aren't committed or face the consequences! The challenge is this, read 1 book a month for the whole year. Thats it. I'll post a type/topic at the beginning of each month, an you pick a book, of your own choice, and read it. For example this months 'topic' at my other place is {quote} December Any book that has the word December in the title, the word Christmas , snow, ice ,cold ,winter ,or even if the cover has a winter scene on it . Good luck, and don't forget to post your progress on your name page . {end quote} We can just go back ad edit or quote and edit (not sure how that'll work yet) our main post to edit our list each month. Anyone up for the challenge?
*****************************************************
February topic; Any love/romance story(Valentines day ya' know , anything to do with Football (Superbowl is in Feb.), Anything with the word Love, romance, passion, desire, Fan (or fanatic), champion, game or battle in the title.
***************************************************** December; Icebound, Dean Koontz

OK So for January {this will give people time to find this, and get us beyond the Christmas season} the "topic" shall be: Any book with January, New, Cold, Thaw, Ice or Snow in the title.
Now how do we keep track? Still have to find out how long posts are editable.

OK, it seems you can edit forever, no limit. So go to your first post in this topic and add what book you are reading. See my first post for an example.
Remember this is a no pressure challenge. You can start now or wait till January. If you just picked up a book you want to read that doesn't fit our 'topic' thats ok, list it anyway. The topic is really for when you aren't feeling inspired and need an idea. When you're done with your book, you can post a short critique of it if you ant or just say it was good or not.

This is a good thing, since I got a computer, I been using my books to level out chairs and stuff I bet I'm not alone, and that...isn't a GOOD thing... I love to read, and haven't in such a long time... Maybe I can dig out some books and replace them with wood blocks so I can participate

Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree! --------------------------------------------
Reading the Thornbirds, about 80 years in the lives of NZ/Aussie families starting about 1900.
Mrs was right, thats a really good book.
Have you read it? Its thrift store classic, should have several in your book section.

I cant find the book thread, can you move this? --------------------- Thornbirds.....
Ive seen this book a billion times at thrift store,Mrs finally asked if Ive read it.Nope,so it was time.
About 100 years or so of a family from NZ,moves to a sheep station in Oz.
Their trials and tribulations,etc.
Wont say much more about plot. Will say I didnt have it figured out at all like most books, only a couple twists were obvious, rest a good story with many twists. A powerful lot of messages about getting the most from life and not wasting it being what you arent,or longing for what you cant have.
Very good book,worth the read.

I finished Icebound, it was good. Not a typical Koontz. It was an Allistair Maclaine style suspense novel. Very good.

Almost done with "Children of the Lens" a serial (book # 6) by E E Doc Smith (c) 1954. Lovely old space sci-fi opera.
I'm in the middle of a christmas present a Sunset (how-to) book on Bonsai (c) 1965. Lots of lovely pictures of earlier generation of USAian bonsai. It was a used bookstore find of daughter.

Do you want me to make a list for the whole year? Then you can always topic jump and go back to one later. geesh, my dingbat self went with your example words Wrennie Thats OK. That can be the Dec-Jan topic. Don't remember reading the Mallory series. I used to read a ton, so maybe. I've forgotten alot of the titles, but might remember is i started reading it over.

got it Wrennie no need to make a list phor the hole yrear i want to go by order anyhow, Sounds like a good book bluelace. these Elm creek quilt novels arnt really about quilts but the ladys that are in a quilt group n there life. kida a chick flick in a book. If you liked the movie steel magnolias youll like these books. the set up reminds me of it, only instead of the ladys knowing each other from a town or hair dresser they know or get to know each other from a quilt group. but I want to phind the first book n read them in order so ill pro phind a marry higgins clark book with the feb words in them, been wanting to read a good mystery.
