Sunday, 2/20/11, after church Johnny and I raked off one of the garden spots and broke up the soil. We've had snow and rain so the soil wasn't dry and looks rich. We planted lettuce, radishes and green peas. Johnny will put up the pea trellis when the wind calms down.
I still haven't ordered my seed potatoes. Get busy Sheri!

The big rain we were expecting amounted to 3 drops and then the wind started and now I can barely stand up out there much less plant anything. It's the end of February and we're 2 inches behind in rain fall. I hate starting out on the short end.

The radishes and the lettuce are coming up. We put up the trellis for the green peas today. it was too wet to plant potatoes. Next week. Also have blooms on the strawberries.

My new garden spot. The spot with lettuce, peas and radishes. The tomato and squash spot from years past where sunflowers will be this year - I hope they grow anyway. And just a picture of our field that we cut down today because I think it looks nice cut.

Yes, it's for your cabin. If you don't mind being in a field without a tree of any size. We cut that field once a year just to make it look a little better. Several years ago we turned it over and planted millions of flower seeds, which came up, but the brush and weeds also came up so the flowers didn't make a great show. We've never done that again. We have a gazillion trees around us but not one in that field.

Today in the spot by the barn I planted 3 rows of red potatoes and a row of beets. In the sunflower garden I put a row of onions, a row of carrots and another row of lettuce. Oh, and someone gave Johnny 6 Better Boy tomato plants that are already about 10 inches tall so I planted them by the barn too.

The potatoes are up and we hilled them last night. They look great. I'll be reseeding the radishes today since I've pulled from them twice now. They're extremely sweet this year for some reason. Some of the lettuce is ready to eat so I'll be cutting that and reseeding as soon as I find out where Johnny hid the seeds.

I planted tomatoes today because they were getting so big. I think they'll be ok since the ones we were given weeks ago are still living. I also planted some basil around the tomatoes, dill where the squash will go and a bunch of marigold seeds.

Today I planted squash and cucumbers and hilled the potatoes for the second time. Boy, I think the new garden spot is the right place for potatoes. I have some dill planted already but need to get out some more. I sure hope it works to get the squash bugs away.

Thank you. The potatoes are too tall to hill anymore. We've had a decent amount of rain this year which hasn't happened in a long time. I've been eating lettuce and radishes out of the garden already.
