I think I have heard just about every different type or way of repelling deer, and heard just about every reason why they don't work. I was just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions on something they may have tried and had good results with.
My need is to protect my beans this coming season.

JC. I have tried every thing on the market. The only thing that I have found that works is, An eight foot high hog wire fence and a 308. Both do work. CF ;D

CF ;D I know you are rite, the fence is the only answer and that might be the thing Ill have to do but we have ordnances here when it comes to fence hight. We used to have horses and an electric wire at the top of the posts that kept the deer out I have to be careful with one of my neighbors they have a small grandson who is always looking for me to ride the tractors, I don't want him to get shocked that would be a bad thing. That's part of the reason I'm looking for an alternate solution. As far as the 308 I have my M14 that would definitely do the trick, but my neighbors would have a shit fit. This is NJ bro...what can I say.

I don't think it will work for beans, but one year I had several rabbit cages that were rounded tunnels of wire on a wood base. Well after the rabbits gnawed all they could off the base I went with all-metal cages, leaving me with those quanset hut-looking things made of wire and very little wood at the bottom. So, I removed the whole bottom and set them down over beds of leaf lettuce and other greens. Worked like a charm to keep rabbits and deer, groundhogs, etc OUT. Just stand the cage on one end and pick, then replace.

Just stand the cage on one end and pick, then replace. I have wire cages on all of my tomato plants. That keeps the deer out but as you have already said. That's not going to help with my pole beans. We have used black pepper around the plants, and it works as long as it doesn't rain and we had a wet season this year. I'm thinking about running a electric fence around the fields on a low profile like we used to do in cow pasture, little more then knee high. I have to be careful about the neighbors grand son on one side of us.....he doesn't always respect borders although we are fenced in by post and board fence, he can still climb threw. His name is Chase so that should tell ya something

This is an old thread but the subject is close to my question; How long will a hot pepper spray last as a repellent after spraying it on the plants? I know I'd re-do it after a good rain, but say it doesn't rain, can it go a week maybe? Two? Is there anything I can add to make it last longer?

We have ONE red spatula that we used to scrape the food processor...we have washed it REPEATEDLY.... and Now...it is only used for Hot..or Non- food use... it will still make a mess of Mashed tators hot ... a year later...

I'm so glad you posted this. My sister just moved to West Virginia and she can't even keep shrubs in the front of her house for the deer. I sure hope this works for her.

Thanks but I tried that and only was only given an opportunity to edit. I couldn't find the delete part.
I just tried it with this post and I do have the option to delete. Is it timed? Maybe I had timed out yesterday. Anyway thank you.

Important update!!! I found that deerskidd will not work on young deer if they get the notion to eat your crop. I brought this to the attention of Tree World ( the distributor of deer skydd) They tryed to tell mre that it is an isolated incident. NOT SO! it continued to happen until my strawberries were completely devestated. That is after two heavy applications.
I am sorry I recommended this product so quickly, but advise that if used you can't trust that it will work completly.

It is stinky but it may work. Take my word for it, the only positive deterrent for deer is deer fence. None of these so called deer repellents work especially the one I had said was so great before testing it long term and for that I do apologize. These companies don't care how much money you spend on there products...actually they want you to spend lots so they can get rich at your expense. The losses I had last season due to trusting Plant-skyd was in the thousands, and that is in no way acceptable. This season will be a loss for planting but I will have time to replace all fencing and replace the electric wire around the perimeter as well. Every farm in this area has installed deer fence in the last two seasons.

We have deer farms around here thats how I know

I leave that pleasure to those who hunt with them. I keep myself pretty busy shooting Woodchucks around the barns with my 22 and pellet Rifle,I could go bigger but I don't want to get the neighbors upset. Once in a wile Ill get the 25/20 Winchester out,but that can get a bit loud. Good Turkey Gun though!

(Have they no free permits for landowners in New Jersey JC?..no depredation laws... A Bow is good...but you mentioned a 22... Bro.. I just happen to know a pheller (we all have visited with him here...he's not been here in a spell) that when times got tuff...he shot deer with a 22 (according to my returns on a search using "shot deer with 22 stingers" he is NOT the only one)(where I come from it IS Illegal to use a 22 on deer.....But.. (if your family is hungry and the freezer is empty) still illegal..but no one I ever knew thought so... back to the 22... If you are a GOOD shot (can HEAD SHOOT a DEER)... and you are within 50 yards.. (these flatten out to about the size of a dime on impact)

They do have deer permits for predation on farms that are 6 acres or larger. I'm just 2 acres and do not qualify because houses are within 400' of my property line.

Joe, if ya use a cross bow it has to be a dead kill shot or it will jump yer fence and be gone.
