I keep running into people who like airated compost tea. They can't all be wrong. Summer of 2009 I used it as summer fertilize (of somebody elses manufacture). I don't think it did anything.
Here's hoping your milage does vary.

Thanks Jersey! I actually posted an interview to my site the other week on the topic of making compost tea. I interviewed a friend of mine who works for Hope College in Holland, MI. With some input from Harvard University, he spearheaded a large-scale compost tea program at Hope that is having very positive results. As part of the interview, he also gives some basic tips that the average homeowner can use to get started on their own. Here's the link to the interview: www.nofeargardening.com/making-compost-tea.html enjoy!

Gidday
I have used compost tea quite a lot. I am sure it helps but that is not scientific. I have also tried aerating it too but now we live next to the coast I am finding that sea weed tea is a lot easier and must be even better cos of all the extra minerals that the sea weed has.

That's some good reading nofeargardener and is in line with the site I posted here. Sounds like a few of us have had some experience with compost tea, me personally.....I have not, I do use foliar spray that has fish formula and seaweed an have had some positive results with some plants but not much with others. I would think that compost tea would be a better combination since there are many more nutrients in compost. For me personally I would need to use a 55 gal. drum to make tea with, and I already have one so that's a plus for me. I'm just wondering what kind of pump I would have to purchase. I know they mention one in the site I posted but I'm not familiar with it at all. Still I will have to do more research in to getting the parts necessary to build one at this point I think the pump is the main concern.

All very good articles here Pholks!! Great Interview Mike!! CP, I went to the erath products page... Erath Earth website I know that they are very fast...but HOLY COW...Guess Ima gonna start producing brewers.. I BUMPED a thread Up titled: Rain Barrels... It contained the original post we made showing our brewer... To read the original thread and see a great setup Past member Douglas built..go here: RAIN BARRELSHere, anything we do, or build...we first lean towards recycling... So without further ado..My original post Dated: Jun 13, 2005 Well, Like I said, no High tech here, all you really need for about 10 gallons of "tea' is one pump, some air hose, diffuser stones and a container. a bag of some sort to put your "ingredients" in and You are in business, for that natter, you don't even need a bag for the goodies, just be sure to give it a stirring everyday. Before, I used a big tank, and as Strong tower said, just shoveled some in it, and let it sit. This aerobic is much better, and smells good, well...better This is my rig, we made it from a culligan water softener salt tank. It is suppose to have 4 diffuser stones, but One I had used last year, sorta crumbled, and when Going to town, means a trip...Ya Go with what you got.

Well those pictures sure show a fancy setup. I just got a little air pump for a fish tank that hat two air outlets, poked some hose on each and a bit of pipe with a couple of holes in on the other end of the hoses then fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and a small bag of compost into it let it bubble away for 24 to 36 hours.
Then just dilute the mix a bit and spray it onto me vege plants.
Worked brilliant when the soil had not been built up real good.
KISS is the way to go. Keep It Simple Stupid.

ya'll be a phunny bunch Nope, that shirt be Laura's... done wore all my tie dye's out...or left em' somewhere back in da 60's-70's I think the link that has the 2500 and 10,000 systems should give ya a shirt though...since they trying to take one ofin yer back with those prices Our setup cost us about 16 bux..the price of two aquarium pumps... Jack, the 5 gallon bucket approach is great...just doesn't produce enough for the area we have to cover.. I dilute the tea @ 1 part tea/2 parts water... If I fill the tank to a "good" level (no foam flowing out) I can make about 50 gal. of diluted tea Rita...why you say dat?? heck..only 98% of my clothes be camo But Hey Mike...I still rock it

That looks like a nice setup for compost tea Phil, I'm going to look into a pump suitable for a 55 gal. drum. so I can run the finished tea in my drip irrigation system.

Do you jokers up there have comfrey. It is absolutely brilliant stuff and very easy to make into a tea. Very high in potash so really great stuff for fruiting crops.

Jack: I'm not sure what that is as far as making compost tea; it sounds like a french cooking sauce though. What exactly is it?

Well comfrey is probably the greatest herb that God has given us, and it make amazing tea for fertilizer.
If I start a new thread on comfrey I wouldn't know where to put it because it has so many benefits.
Phil iffin I do start a new thread can you fit it in where it should be?
