Rita you can purchase different verities of cover crop for you garden in the future that will add beneficial nutrients to the soil in small quantity from High Mowing. Web site www.highmowingseeds.com They sell seed in 1#, 5#, 25#, and 50# weights so it is easy for you to find what you need and not spend a lot of money. If you call you can speak to someone about you needs. Just a Suggestion.

:)You don't need luck to grow cabbage, you need cool weather and BT.

Rita you can start your cabbage indoors n put out in spring wile still cold out to head up, or sow seeds in spring n let it head up in fall. its a lil longer growing period but worked phor me..it needs colder weather to head. last year I just let it go instead of cleaning it out the garden n wala heads! ;D

Rita: If your question is about cover crop in spring I would recommend BMR Sorgum-sudan grass it grows fast and controls some nematodes that are harmful to plants, also it creates lots of biomass in a short period of time so you can turn it into the soil for new green fertilizer; I would cut it down first before turning it under. Pricing is moderate 1lb $9.40, 5lb $25.20. I would think you would need less then 5lbs in a small area since 35lbs covers 1acre.

Yep I can't see buying over a lb to be honest .. I am not sure how long the seed lasts or I would get more .. Coppice .. Yes I plant broccoli and cabbage in early spring also ..
