should be a great project and a nice composter Rita... back in the day, I had an old steel barrel...cut an opening and hinged a door on it...just left it on it's side...filled with yard waste...and would give it a push about once a day to turn everything inside... We now have a Old 70ish Kemp compost tumbler, one we were gifted...

W8 at first I thought I had stumbled onto a great free pattern which turned out to cost money so I didn't want to post it but they were cute I really like this set up .. It looks like it would work great. Keith thinks he knows a place to get the barrels for free to so that would be a bonus ... I also Like the PVC down the middle to allow for water and air to get in there

yes .. hubbs made one for me a couple years ago nothing down the middle you just turn it .. it works but being in the sunshine the door got warpped but it still works I figure that way it gets air

Nice tumbler! Very handy. Me... I have a homemade bin of sorts. Basically a homemade half crate. I turn it with a shovel... which admittedly gets a little old. Back to the original link you had with the crochet slippers... I think that's something worth investigating (composting in slippers). Could be a whole untapped market out there!

I have a Large boxed in compost bin now .. which because it is BIG it makes it hard to turn .. This bin would work well for me and I hear they are a lot faster for composting also

Gidday
Can I ask what is probably a silly question.
What is the PVC pipe with the holes in it up the centre of the drum for?
If it is just for aerating it why not just drill small holes in the drum?
