Oooooh, Rita, I'm so sorry to hear about your gardooon being compromised. Perhaps mark the area off where the tranny leaked. Then add some topsoil to the crash area and don't dig it up in that spot. I'm dealing with the same sort of thing in a part of my garden because the former owner parked some old heaps over there the last year they lived here. The lawn is now sprouting grass where I reseeded it, slowly, slowly. And there is only one section that is questionable so I don't plant it. Instead, I just use it for my scarecrow and to trail squash vines when they need extra space.

I'll have to search to find out more but I THINK Tfluid is more better in a spill-in-the-garden- situation than motor oil would be. back in a while. ETA: Well the jury is still out on this. Some carmakers are using a Canola-based tranmission fluid, (depends on make, model, yada yada)but the bad news is that it contain boric acid, so not good at all for a garden. I recommend complete removal and replacement of affected soil, perhaps the wrecked cars' insurance will cover it? I mean if they broke a window they'd replace that, right?

I will need to do more investigation on my part to see what the deal is with this situation .. I am sure the ins . co has to pay for this .. This was an older car so I am sure its not canola

I can foresee problems with the insurance though Rita...most cities, the area between the curb and sidewalk are city owned...even though you are responsible to mow, maintain, remove snow.. so, the insurance company may only ask WHY...you gardening on the cities property.. fence in and dig up yer front yard and make a edible landscape

I don't have sidewalks on my side of the road but the phire hydrant is for sure city property .. which they should fix .. I don't know if its in working order or not don't know what the top cap does but have had many city officials come by looking at it shake their heads and and leave wonder what would happen if there was a phire

Thanks W8in!! I have a dark purple columbine also I just love them and a few mystery ones popping up this year as well ! If it stays nice and stops raining long enough I will try and get more pics today Yes they finally fixed the hydrant ... the car crash made quite the mess tho I can still smell some time of oil/gas smell out there We decided to NOT put a garden in this year thought it would be a better idea to get the yard all fixed up for that "curb" appeal that people want .. for when we can finally sell this house and move ..
