Im thinking this is gonna be the year of the cicada locus. Their shells are all over my quincy bush! tons of them any one else phinding them this year? Attachments:

I don't know where you are, but the hatch-out can be very localized. Plus there are at least 2 different Cicadas, a 13-year and one that takes 17 years to complete the cycle. Last year in middle Tennessee we had a hatch around Nashville, but 50 miles phrom there nada. Go figure.

Haven't seen any here yet (East Texas) but do see some every year. Not many. When I was a kid you could hear them all night. Really loud. CF

What I don't want to do is sound superior. One, I don't think I am, and I suspect there is a malaprop goin' on here.
Its all in a word.
A locus, is a place or a site where things happen.
A locust is a grasshopper-ish bug, that if he showsup with enough of his bretheren, can eat you out of house and home.
Cicada hatch out on a cycle and can have a huge population, they will-do drive me to distraction cause they are noisy as heck. They don't eat, they can drink water, breed and then die.
Cicada are a substantial food supply while they last for chickens.

I spelled it wrong. not locus its locust. there also called the 17-year locust.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagicicadaWell they hit the news papper here. Phrom what there saying we have some of the brood 1 in our area and thats what were phinding. brood1 is WV & vA. I live by the WV border so no wonder Im getting there bugs. PA's brood 2 is due next year. click on the link to phind out when your getting them in your area..
