Garret that is the result of poor pollination...either your bee's aren't getting the job done, or it's been humid, or raining a lot. You need to take a Q-tip, or a paint brush...and do it yourself to the female flower... Here's an old pictorial I did... POOR PICS..old camera Female FlowerMale Flower:Peel the petals off the male flower...exposing the "Stamen" (male part of the flower) Then hold onto the stem of the male flower and use the stamen, like a paint brush to coat the "Pistol" of the female blossom. Thats it Bro, results guaranteed!

Thanks Caveman and thanks Phil!
that`s great info and I appreciate it......I only planted one each of the squash, so pollination or the lack of is most likely my problem.
This year is a learning experience for me, I`ll do better next season as I expand!

The male just has a stem leading to flower, female has a baby veggie before the flower,I had 4 males bloom today.

With the Colony Collapse disorder....they are fewer in number every year, We see honey bees, but the main pollinators here are orchard bees...and for a Love/hate scenario...the cuke beetles... more plants will increase your chances...but hand pollinating is still advised... Or Bee'friend ....a beekeeper
