You have some nice looking birds there. Glad to see you took the time to build a proper home for them. 'Coons, eat yer heart out! Looks like FT Knox, nothing can get in there.

Thanks everybody! I hope it`s safe enough for `em! Even though we are back into triple digit weather here in Oklahoma, they seem to be adjusting well to their new surroundings, one of my Red Pyle Pullets laid a egg yesterday.

Just some random photos..... The barn with a fresh coat of paint. Inside the shop. SDW Cockreal. Here is one of my nest boxes, I have used these for years with a great deal success and high hatch %. It`s a cat litter container that I just cut the lid where it hinges and snapped it back on. I zipped a couple of small drywall screws through the container into a 1" X "4 for stability. These are great for bantam hens up to small game hens. Waste not, want not!

Garrett, love your birds. I want some so bad, just because I like them. Varmints are so bad here in East Texas I have never been able to keep them for long. Last ones I had roosted way up in the trees, but the animals finally did them in. I also like your pens. I have a pen 20'X40'X6' chain link. I am thinking I could put chicken in there with a coon tight house. then just lock them at night, let them out in the morning. I am looking at the brown leghorns. CF

CF [/quote] Thank You! That would be a nice big area for sure and I doubt if a coon could chew through chain link. Leghorns are a all around good utility chicken and they are easy on the eyes too! From what I remember, chickens need about `3 sq ft inside and about `10 sq ft outside to be healthy and happy, if my figuring is correct you have 800 sq ft

Just some random pics...... I closed off the front of the barn to cut down on varmints, two and four legged. Not that I have any problems with either one but I had the material laying around and I think it looks better. In the Spring I am going build a long raised bed in front of the shop and fenced area. Hey Garret, I can see where you'd want to keep varmits out...but I think your barn looked great as it was...and still looks great!! a garden in front would look real cool...Now, those are for sure some great looking birds you have there, the Roo is a handsome pheller!!

Thanks everybody! Those little rascals are a lot of fun! My Red Pyle Pullets are laying pretty good now and I thought about letting one of `em sit these eggs but with Winter right around the corner I went ahead and pulled `em, I don`t like to have peeps on the ground this time of year. I feel the same as Trudy , we got tired of the critters gettin our critters!! We gave the last of our chickens to my daughter , there was only one left, her chickens pecked most the feathers off of her so she gave it to her neighbor. they have her in a pen with a bench , their daughter sets in there and pets her every day she has been laying eggs and is doing wonderful..... I love your setup Garret!! Beautiful birds!
