That is funny Wrennie..I took a fresh bunch of whole peanuts out to the feeder yesterday & C.C. was out rolling on the peanuts on the ground. I put them there so the Blue Jays can swoop in on them. Plus I have to give the cats shelled peanuts so they stay out of the tree feeder. Took out a buncha food for the birds yesterday. They are happy today!

At Lowe's Saturday I saw a squirrel safe suet feeder. The suet holders are inside a cage but the outer cage is so deep I can't imagine that a bird can stick his head that far into the bars.
5 or 6 years ago we decided we wanted bluebirds in our yard so we bought 2 bluebird boxes and stuck one up on a pole. It was inhabited the very next day and we've had bluebirds every since.

I did hang my new feeder, sorry I've not been on here much. I will post some pics soon. I have been walking and hiking every chance I get. I enjoy it and I need the exercise. I couldn't find suet cakes,so I just put left over bread, biscuits, rolls, granola bars, etc. in it and they love it. I have a couple woodpeckers that love it as well as other birds.

Sad to say the grackles are back. I saw one of them eating out of my platform feeder today. Guess I'll have to go back to safflower seeds in the feeders.

Bestofour, You find that Grackles won't eat Safflower?? Great tip, thanks! I feed it in winter because Cardinals like it and Mourning Doves like it but Squirrels won't eat it Now I have another reason to feed it,

I don't have much of a problem with Grackles .... I just use regular food from the mill.... I know they come thru here in a wave for a few days , but I don't have problems with grackles, or squirrels for that matter , now when we went up north last time we didn't see a squirrel 1, we put a squirrel feeder out and the birds had a ball with it, but no squirrels .... Nice to know about the Safflower tho

The grackles are so annoying. We love to feed the birds but I hate it when the gracks come in & make a mess out of everything. BAD BIRDS

They are bad birds. They're aggressive and messy. The cats don't even bother them.

At Lowe's Saturday I saw a squirrel safe suet feeder. The suet holders are inside a cage but the outer cage is so deep I can't imagine that a bird can stick his head that far into the bars. I have one of those. Made by Duncraft (made in the USA btw) The birds get in there fine. Bestofour, You find that Grackles won't eat Safflower?? Great tip, thanks! I feed it in winter because Cardinals like it and Mourning Doves like it but Squirrels won't eat it Now I have another reason to feed it, My gray squirrels will eat safflower if theres nothing else around, not as voraciously as sunflower, but they eat it.

maybe I shouldn't write this but lately the squirrels haven't bothered my feeders. Maybe our 2 cats are keeping them away. The cardinals eat the safflower seeds but they don't seem to like it that much.

My neighbours feed them peanuts year round. Not much chance of them eating my safflower then, TY
