Well I know it is a little late for planting most garden stuff here in Texas I am going to try it anyway and see what happens.Having been sick the past couple weeks and not being able to do anything really has been frustrating.Adding to my family not getting here in plenty of time to get things off to a good start did not help ether.Never the less I decided today to plant some seeds today and see what happens. God knows i now have enough to experiment with.Unfortunately I did not get out there soon enough. When I stepped outside the temp which was 85 already along with the humidity just about knocked me down(kind of wonder if the temp was right.) I did try to do something. One of the Mortgage Lifter plants was leaning so I propped it up by hilling soil around it.After that I headed inside. So I need to set the alarm clock to farmers hours and get out there by 7am.
In the mean time here is what I am planting which is mainly vine crops.
Cantaloupe: Yubari,Sierra Gold
Melon: Early Silverline Watermelon: Hikado and Crimson Sweet
Pumpkin: Winter Luxury,Howden,Field Trip ,Old Zeb's and maybe Long Island Cheese
Winter Squash: Kabacha
Cucumber: Straight Eight
Summer Squash: Zucchini Romanesco
Scallions
Carrot : Little Finger

As far as the heat goes, we don't fight it, we either get out before the sun comes up or later in the afternoon when things cool down. If we don't get it today there is always tomorrow. There are no deadlines here at Twenty Pines Farm. Life is to short and we are in no hurry.

Yeah for up North it sure ain't late JC . The concern is the high temps Texas has around July and August. But on the good side the garden has afternoon partial shade. This should help. What I would like to do is try out a lettuce mix that Seeds from Italy sent me last year. Also would like to try radishes but knowing how prone to bolting they are when it gets to warm.............

Kevin, I don't feel it is to late. 2-Morrow I am gonna plant some more pepper plants, that I started from seed. I may not get any peppers from them until fall, but that is ok. When the rest stop producing, these will just be starting. I have no shade for my garden, Just the hot sun all day. One thing you will like about Texas gardening is the longer growing season. I start my garden in March, after the last frost, and don't clean it up until around Thanksgiving. My first batch of tomatoes are just starting to ripen. I checked and I am starting to get little peppers and cucs. Can't wait for the first ones in the salad. Outa be good, as usual.
