Because the squash plants were so big and needed to either be repotted (is that what happens to an old hippy)or planted I planted some of the in the straw bales. It is so windy that I didn't plant them all cuz I'm worried the wind is going to break them.
It's also too windy to put out the corn, okra, or beans.
The potatoes are coming up nicely so are the beets. My green peas never do well and this year is no different. I thought I was waiting too long to plant them so I put them out earlier but they still aren't doing all that well. Maybe I should plant them in the fall.

I finished planting the squash and they look good. Might put out the tomatoes tomorrow. Will definitely put out the okra. Planted 3 rows of corn, 2 rows of Blue Lake bush beans, 1 row of cucumbers. We need rain. It was hot 81º today.

planted the okra. Planted the tomatoes in the raised beds. Hope they grow. Some of them are small but how much longer can I keep them in the pretend green house. It's time they moved out and made it on their own.

Good to know I'm not the only one. It's warming up out there so maybe things will take off and I'll start complaining about the heat.

It's low 70's here! I am loving every second of it! We have some Ferns coming up! I see them everywhere but have never had them on our property before! So I staked them off so they can grow! It must be a great year for them. They have had ALOT of rain here.

Got some squash and more strawberries yesterday. Colt is still here so there's only so much I can do out there. Wouldn't it be nice if a 16 year old wanted to help as much as a 3 year old.

Forgot to mention that we picked some green peas and we put them in a pasta salad. Unfortunately I never have enough peas to can or freeze.

We got our first cucumber last night. It was yummy. The replant on squash after the tree crew demolished them have come up. There are tiny tomatoes out there too.

I replanted the squash that the tree crew demolished and it's up so all is not lost. I found out that the gang neighbors chickens have been digging up the corn and bean seeds that I keep replanting. Not sure what I can do about that except catch the chickens and keep them for myself. I might just try that.

Dang yea! keep them chickens for your self! Start getting eggs! LOL when they wonder where their chickens are. Maby they will learn to keep them semi contained! At least in their own yard!

Poured rain yesterday and today I have male and female flowers on the squash. The tomato plants are still small. I don't know why. hmm, wonder why..when did you get them planted?? I was working with ours yesterday tying them up to support the weight(planted out Memorial weekend)some our them are just short of 5 ft tall... they were set out with a generous amount of chicken crap though..

The chicken were in the garden again this afternoon and I could see one of the gang members over the fence standing on the steps of their back porch. I yelled for him to come to the fence and he did and pulled up something to stand on so we could see each other. I told him my dog was going to kill his chickens and he said he'd try to figure out how they're getting out. We'll see.
Phil, the tomatoes finally started growing. Nothing ripe yet but have some pretty good sized green ones.

The chickens didn't stay out of the garden. I tried to get them into the fence so Andy could chase them and let the gang know I mean business. Johnny thinks I'm mean so he put up a chicken wire fence around the entire big garden. I'm still going to try and get those trespassers into the fence with Andy and let nature take it's course or keep them for myself. borage

I've prayed and prayed over this squash in an effort to avert the dreaded squash bug and so far I've gotten tons of squash and the plants that the tree crew didn't ruin, only 3, are beautiful. Yesterday afternoon I thought I saw a lone squash bug but it got away before I could be sure. I have read somewhere to put boards around the squash because squash bugs and snails will use it as a motel for the night, go out early in the morning, turn them over, and murder the culprits.
