Sirloin Pork Chop and hash browned potatoes, browned on stove then finished in the oven and Bushes Best country style beans. Potatoes are an (accidental) experiment. They are from my 2013 garden and have been in my fridge ever since. Yukon Gold and they are still in fine shape ! I learned a long time ago they keep a long time in the fridge but have never kept any that long. Kinda forgot about them back in the corner. This year I grew Red Pontiac and am going to purposely save a few to see how long they will keep. Interesting agree , were they bitter Mike? I have never stored potatoes in the fridge, they say that the starch converts to sugars and makes them bitter at temps under 50°...obviously your fridge is colder than that..seeing how you still alive and kickin .. That being said...ours are stored in the pantry and there are times when we have to open the door because it's quite cold in there..probably at least "refrigerator cold"...so, maybe I answered my own question...but typically they are only at that kinda temp for a few days..

No they were not bitter at all. I shredded them raw, cooked them as I always do and they tasted like fresh, had a few left over and reheated them for breakfast and they were still fine. 2706 Now I have had store bought potatoes spoil in the fridge so it may be that these were super fresh when stored and had not been through any kind of mechanical washing/sorting or it may be the variety that made a difference. I have found Yukon Gold stores really well. If they freeze they will spoil but keeping them cool prevents sprouting. Any way it will be fun to see how long the Pontiacs I raised this year will keep. Curzio Caravati from the Kenosha Potato Project uses "how well they will store without refrigeration" as one of the things he judges varieties on, so obviously he refrigerates at least some times. And he knows more about potatoes than any one I know of except maybe Tom Wagner from TaterMater seeds.
