What kind of Kale should I grow? I tried some in a salad and want to grow some this year. Can I freeze it cooked or will that make it icky? Wrennie, we raised Kale for the first time here last year.. we raised: Dwarf Curled Premier we had a couple plants each of: Dinosaur--also called Tuscan) Red Russian The dwarf variety kicked butt..tasted great and we sold the crap out of it...no matter how much we took to market..we came home with none. We had two successive plantings of it, and it stayed just fine in the garden down WAY below freezing the premier (a flat leaf type)was good...but we didn't think as much of it..neither did customers.. the other two, we got some plants at a stand and stuck them in a spot that was left...not the best sun..they still did good..the Dinosaur is nice and sturdy. As for freezing, we didn't but was told just a QUICK 2 minute blanch, then into an ice bath to shock..dry on towels and package... Dunno, I know we pulled some of our spinach out of the freezer yesterday...and it was Great!
