Who has made crab apple jelly before and how do you know when to pick them? I have a tree (still small) that had/has quite a few on it and thought about trying the jelly but know nothing about them except as a teenager we use to pick them and throw them at each other..

Cut a few open, if the seeds are brown they are ripe. Just check the web or youtube...lots of easy ways to make your jelly. wave

I have made it! Its very good! I am not sure when to pick them, hubs will taste them and say yay or na! We just checked last week, last year waited too long. So Cavey says if the seeds are brown its good I think I'll use that!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Gotta see if the deer have eaten too many of the apples.

Didn't get to the trees before Matthew blew through so I'll bet they're blown to kingdom come.
