Has anyone ever grown Tomatoes upside down? I was thinking.... ( I know I know that is dangerous..) Any hoo. They say Carrots love tomatoes right? so if you grow Tomatoes upside down, why couldn't you plant Carrots in the soil? They would grow up ( or down) and the tomatoes would hang. they would be easier to harvest, less stress on the plant. Any way what good does the carrots do the tomatoes?? Keep them company??

I tried last year, but I wasn't excited with the results. I did peppers, tomatoes, cantalope& summersquash. I think I used too small of a container. This year I will up the container size.

Maybe The Tomatoes bring the carrots home baked Goodies once in awhile! ROTFLMAO Companion Planting is a old practice, some work, some don't. Other plants smells will repel theBuGs that the other one gets!,( in plain old language), some other plants that get along well with carrots are:Bush Beans, Pole Beans, Lettuce, Onion, Peas, Radish, Tomato, Sage and Dill

Got it! This thing is huge! Says on the box it will hold 80# of soil. Anyway, it is black plastic, stands about 5' high with an open top. Ah, heck, it'll be easier to take a picture! Hold on and I will post it...

There are 2" holes on each of the outside corners of that upper box to put your tomato plant in and then you can plant herbs or whatever on top. I'm pretty skeptical of this thing. If anyone is interested though, they probably have a website. I can look and post it for you if interested...let me know!

Mostly~our property butts up against 20 acres of city property that is to low to develop. So we benefit! And that is also why we commute 2 hours everyday. Sure couldn't find a piece of property like this in Orlando!

The Marigolds that deter buggies are the 'french' variety, the others may help some, but still look nice, but as xdx says, can get rather tall, there will be much info here in about two weeks on both Organic and other types of gardening, till I get my butt in gear and search my files tho, this is a general statement: Growing herbs and flowers in between your vegetables is not only helpful, but makes for a purty garden, marigolds will deter a number of unwanted bugs, including nematodes and white fly, and their flowers will attract bees to your garden. Sage will help to protect against the cabbage white butterfly, and rosemary will do the same against the carrot fly. Plant garlic in between your brassicas(cauliflower, cabbage, broccolli, etc.) to deter not only the cabbage white butterfly, but other flying insects. The only rule really is to check how tall your plantings will get, so as to not shade the others!!! Thumb

Now, as to the rest of you: Yes, Mommabear, there is a saying but I don't remember how it goes either. There are actually several species~5, I think? :4-dontkno that look similiar to the coral snake. The definitive way to tell the difference is that only the coral snake has a black nose tip, the rest are either red or yellow. Now, if you want to get close enough to check it out, please feel free when I am NOT around! We should, Shaking but don't wear boots when we go out there. But, we don't go out in the woods often. One time our son had a diamondback slither past him only 6 inches from his foot. He was 19 at the time and a surfer, and that darn snake was as big around his upper arm and about 5-6' long. I sure am grateful the diamondback is not an aggressive snake! The coral is not either. So we don't worry overly much about them. :4-dontkno
