we had two pet raccoons once when i was a kid.. they are adorable.. they stayed with us for along time.. we just let them come and go as they pleased pretty much... they would get mad at us for one reason or another and puff up, and walk on their hind legs like a big old bear.. i guess i'd care for him the same as i would a kitten

He's a climber and climbs up my shirt Jeanette, I have to force the bottle in his mouth and squeeze it gently cause he puts up a fight

keep doing that, he's just not used to eating that way.. he'll get it pretty soon.. what are you giving him??? there's a recipe for baby animal milk using evaporated milk and karro syrup.. you have to be carefull about giving them milk that is too rich.. it gives them the poops. that can be fatal for babies.. when i find myself in that situation, i use goats milk.. they even sell it in the stores around here..

that's a real good idea.. i read you are never supposed to give them baby formula..
Doug, if bethany shows up on your door step, send her home ;D ;D she want's to come and visit your new phriend.. .. we accually had 2 that we found at different places and times during the same summer.. one was named ringo.. the other rascel.. even after they were older and started to become wild.. they would come and see us once in a while.. they were a heck of alot of fun..

I have raised several coons on the bottle. Make sure the hole is big enough for it to get milk easily. Remember to burp him after each feeding. If you are using formula, get Low Iron. It should be eating at least 4 times a day.
He is definitely crying for his Mama. Get a box and make a little cave for him. Turn it upside down and cut a hole for an entrance. Put an old T shirt or towel in the other end, so he can snuggle up in it. When he is extra content, he will purr like a kitten.
In NY, you need a special permit to rehabilitate a animal that can carry or transmit rabies.Do not be surprised if some of the places can't take him. You could call the local DEC office and find out if anyone is a certified wildlife rehabilitator in your area. DO NOT tell the DEC you are in possession of a raccoon. You could be subject to a fine and the coon would probably be confiscated. Then he would be tested for rabies. That means he would be euthanized. If you have any questions, just PM me. Good Luck!
