It was a drim and drismal bluff and blustery sleepy doggie kind of day. I don't have a dog any more, but if I did I wouldn't send him out on a day like this. The temp never got above 40 degrees (American), and a stiff gale blew out of the east across the marsh, kicking up spray and spitting out rain intermittently. This was a good day for an inside job like cleaning the bathroom. It wasn't that far gone, but it would have to be done sooner or later, and I didn't want to waste a nice day on a crummy job like that. About 4:00 PM I went out into the garage to take a break, since I no longer smoke in the house. Before I sat down and lit up, I looked out the window because I have seen deer out there on the drainfield before at this time of the year. They like the green grass that grows there before it freshens up in most other places. Sure enough, there was this young doe chomping away like there was no tomorrow. I took five pictures, but only this one came out decently. It was dark enough that the flash went off and, each time it did, the deer looked at me in alarm but, seconds later, went back to chomping the grass. Finally something else startled it and it trotted off down the rifle range, where it met another deer that was standing right in front of the target frame. The two of them quickly slipped off into the woods, and that was the end of that. Funny how a wasted day like that can turn into something pleasant. All you have to do is be in the right place at the right time and pay attention.

Yes WWB, thats a wonderful thing to see on a other wise crappy day...We enjoy what wildlife ventures past Us here, wish we lived in the deeper wooded areas, too much farming around here to have many trees, or the type of habitat needed for large populations of critters...we do get a few though, so it's always a welcome break to sit and Observe
