Wrennie, how small can you make a granny square? like a 6in block? I was at wally world n saw the same colored fleck yarn im using in the aphgan but it was black. im using coffee fleck in the aphgan we did now. thought it would be cool to make a black fleck n all colors granny square checkard bord aphgan next winter....note NEXT winter this would look nice ifn we could make the blocks smaller so theres more of them.. right now i gotta finish up this aphgan n a few other projects, but think ill pick up some black fleck here n there so ill have enough, then make a block here n there so ill have them done n waiting to be made in a aphgan next winter
You can make granny squares as small or as big as you want. 2 rounds and you have a square. Thats about 3 or 4 inches. I'd go at least 4 rounds so it isn't too stiff from so much sewing together. It depends what size hook is being used too, smaller hooks make smaller squares.

So 4 rounds would make a 6in block? can you let me know what size hook n what size block you can do? that way I can start making the black blocks the same size. and I can get the same size hook to make some granny squares too. Ita prob be Me n you in our next aphgan unless we get more yarners ,,,,Im just assuming you'll join
I was getting better with the granny squares, havent worked on it inawile. ill do that this comming year.
2nd border to the aphgan is almost done, just a few more inches, then i can start on border 3
I usually use a J hook for squares, mostly cause it goes a bit faster that way. With ww yarn, like red heart. I wish their super saver was softer, but their other yarn is good too. I just recently went to a hobby lobby and fell in love with their yarn. It's called I love this yarn (really) It's way sot and the variegated ones have some really pretty colors. Now that I've felt it I can order it online and I know I'll like it.
You should join crochetville ( crochetville.org )with me. They do talk a bit about knitting and would probably love your input on that too.
lol thats a cool name, "I love this yarn" lol I dont know what my hook is other than 6/6-4.25mm...lol maybe we'll just stick with the 12in squares phor now.. ill check our crochetville sometime this week..every one knits or crochets so much faster than me lol. I got 2 border done, need to roll up another yarn n start on 3rd border..wont be much longer now, wootwoot!!
