250 t0 300 feet of space?? Probably out of the question for me this year.. But I will read up on all this and maybe next year. I will have to clean off a whole new spot. I have a good long growing season, maybe I could but....It would be a LOT of digging !!

Too any one considering this 'hobby'. we are talking here of a space, with a plant grown in the 'christmas tree pattern' of 20x15, unless you are Strongly opposed to Chemicals...You could use round-up, the wait is minimal before you can plant. You will need to wait till the roundup has 'transgressed' which simply means it has moved from the sprayed leaf surface, to the entire root, which is evident by having total 'burn down' (about two weeks) so do it Now. it should be said here tho, that a small spot for now, about 3x3 is all that is needed to get the plant started, then do the remainder, being careful, NOT to get any spray on the young plant. Yeah ,yeah , I know...Pharmer Phil talkin' roundup... BUT, Critical situations, demand critical measures. and the RU, becomes inactive in a short time, ALWAYS FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, and NO, more IS NOT better and another thing...there are lots of folks who let the vines grow....on their Lawn!

Doug, are you talking about one of those GASOLENE operated machines that also require oil, and smoke up the enviriovment?? I don't like those things and its not "NATURAL". ! ROTFLMAO ROTFLMAO ROTFLMAO
Just kidding..Actually, I don't have one and my mom's is one of those little things that all you do is pull grass out of. My uncle would plow for me it is just a question of where... So it doesn't wash away...Then of course getting him here to do it.
Would like to have that little burn torch thing though...But there is a ban on burning anything here in Georgia till October. And I am near a lot of woods...dry fields...and there is the house to consider...Maybe I will just pull my weeds like normal..
mine are up, on one kind the dicodoledens(SP) (the first two leaves) are an inch across!!! the one kind of seed is doing much better than the other, i take that back the leaves are an inch and a half across. the seed that says '2003 little' is doing the best....

Sounds Great Jeanette, I will tell you tho, the seed that showed the most vigor, May Not end up being your best Plant! I took the one that was the first, biggest and was growing the best last year, stuck it in My BEST SPOT AND IT FAILED MISERABLY, One of the ones that were lacking it seemed, outgrew the good looking one 3 to 1 at mid-season... and whats worse, it's happened that way before Shaking
about this pollination, we are sorely lacking in the bee department this year... when the time comes will you guys please explain to me how you do it by hand, sunny and windy today good drying day.. we picked up another inch yesterday.
Why not right now...........when you have a male and female flower opened the same morning, use a small water color brush and rub it across the male flower gathering up the pollin and rub it over the female flower on the lobes inside and close it shut. You will know in about three days if it took or not
Well I just finished putting in my pumpkin plants. I mixed in a bag 1/2 of composted manure in the hills with blood meal and some pellet ferts 17-17-17 that should last a few months. I also planted some huberts, acorn, and butternut squash. My Zuccini is up doing well but my watermelon and cantalop hasn't come up yet.
