These are NOT my punkin's ..............
........ but every year for the last 10 or 12 years, the Ladyrum and I take a day for ourselves. We started this years ago in early October since we both love the fall colors and activities. We climb in the old pickup and take a 'Punkin' Run' through parts of three counties and like as not will have a hot dog in Rich Creek VA (yep at th' small DQ there). We chose a time sometime in the first week of October. We spend the day together gathering up punkin's and yard pretties for our fall decorations. It's an annual event that I would not miss for the world. The pic is from the Cinderella Punkin' Patch, they sell pumpkins (I really can spell it) gords, corn shocks, and sometimes are even making apple butter out in an old copper kettle. Then it's on over to Rich Creek (unless we pack a pic a nic lunch to have at one of the old covered bridges in the area. Got pics of those too if anyone's interested), then back up Rt. 219 through Lindside (farm country) through Union, Pickaway then to Morgan Orchard to pick up some wind fallen apples. It's a huge orchard and there apples of most every kind, Yorks, Gala, Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Paramaign, Fallywaters ... well you get my drift. Then we may check the covered bridge on Second Creek to see if any of the wild mustangs are there. Our state (WV) took part in the rescue program to save some of these magnificent animals. I have a pic of some of them too with an accompanying original poem.
Anyway ... long story ... uh ... long... I was invited to post a story inspired by our annual punkin' run. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down th' board in your 'campfire' thread. Didn't seem to be anybody usin' that one so my story should not be intrusive. I hope some of you 'punkineers' will ease on down an' check it out. It's under Tumble Creek Tales ... the moniker for an anthology I've been doing for a fishing/outdoor site for three years or so.
'at's enough
