Well it takes a bit, usually 3-4 weeks for the mycilium to colonize a block. Then the shrooms start growing. Those started growing on Saturday. I'll post pics of their progress. Should be ready to pick and eat tomorow or the next day. They can double or triple in size each day.

They sure do grow fast if the conditions are right. Temp and humidity are really the key factors. As well as fesh air. Mushrooms produce co2 as they decompose their growing substraight.

The substraight for the Shiitake block that is growing here is a mixture of sawdust, woodchips, rye flour, and calcium sulphate (gypsum).

Yup they're gettin there. They probably would have tripled in size if I could keep them a bit cooler like 10 degrees the temp in the room where they are is mid 70's. A grow room temp is mid to upper 60's.

Strong, thanx. Well in the bag is pasturized straw which was inoculated with grain spawn of oyster mushrooms. The white stuff you see is the mycelium, (thats what mushrooms fruit from) Now give it a few days and I'll post pics of the mushrooms growing out the sides of the bag. They have alredy began growing you just can't see them well yet. And yes I do eat the mushrooms, but not the stuff in the bag. I hope this explains everything.

Hey Strong, if you've ever walked through the woods and saw a white/off white mushroom growing on a tree or fallen log then you've seen an oyster mushroom. They have a sent of Anise. Very good mushroom to eat. I removed the bag last night, the primordia (the part below the "little balls") was trying to push through. So I had to remove it. I'll get a picture here inna little while, it is progessing very nicely I think.

GOOD GRIEF !!!! You ain't kidding they are doing well !!! Didn't you just start this a few days ago?? Well I must say I am impressed !!! I have seen the mushrooms on trees. And the white ones that come up in the garden and sometimes some kind of little white puff thing in the yard. I don't know the difference so I leave them all alone !! ( Actually those are not quite as ugly, in fact kind of pretty, but those other ones.....)
