I haven't posted on here much this winter, but it's near growing season again so time to start up. Late in the fall Husband and I started working on getting the greenhouse ready. I converted the southeast corner of a shed for this.
Last Tuesday I took the day off to finish things up, we got the roof vent installed, the heater hooked up and the shelves built. It was near 60.
Then it got cold and snowed again. Today I woke up to temps around -10. The greenhouse got down to +10 and is already up to 50. I have not tried running the heater yet, but sure hope we won't get any temps that cold once I get the seeds started.
Here is the inside.
The fixed pane windows are double pane sashes from the double hung windows we took out of the house. All the walls have 2" of foam board for insulation.
We used a 6' long 220 baseboard heater that we took out of the house. It is controlled by the thermostat you can see in the picture, attached to the bench. The thermostat plugs into a 220 outlet in the wall and the heater plugs into the outlet controlled by the thermostat.
The window on the back wall opens to the chicken coop. The idea is the greenhouse will help heat the coop in the winter. The window on the east side can be opened as needed.
There is an attic vent up near the peak, (I need to trim the foam) and it is on a thermostat set to turn on at 90. This is also on a switch so I can shut it off when we aren't using the greenhouse for plants. I think I'll need a cover to keep heat in at night.
I have no idea if this will work out, but it will be fun trying!
