Here is a picture of my pink hyacinth growing and blooming in nothing but water!
You chill the bulb in the fridge for 6 - 8 weeks, making sure that the actual bulb isn't touching the water, or it will rot. A special vase is used, that holds the bulb above the water. When you see a green shoot appear, you take it out of the fridge and put it in a sunny window, and voila...

Hello!
Well, really when it first comes out of the fridge it should be introduced slowly to sunshine. While the leaves and flower bud are growing, part or full sun is adequate. Once the bud begins to bloom, I put mine in a very shady and cool position to prolong the flower. If it's too warm after blooming, the flower dies much sooner! No fertilizer is necessary, as the flower bud formed inside the bulb long before you bought it! Water and light is all that are required.

Hey guys:
Here is a picture of another hyacinth just starting to bloom for me! It's a lighter pink than the other one. Note the vase that holds the bulb above the water, so it doesn't rot. See the long white roots?!!!! I put pieces of charcoal in the water to keep it fresh longer.

Well I though that last pic wasn't as becoming as it could be because the bloom was just beginning. Here is a much better shot of the same bloom - just more developed. Enjoy...

Those are doing well. I take it that's an artificial ladybird and not a prehistoric monster! ;D
We've only one pot of home grown hyacinths this year. They're about a couple of weeks behind yours but they are doing well.

Hi Spruance:
I laughed so hard at your funny comment about the ladybug
A picture says a thousand words, doesn't it? Sure wish I could see yours too, but glad to hear they are doing well.
I have many more upcoming tulip blooms that I will post up pictures of. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for all the compliments everyone
As you can see, I grew many different colored hyacinths - but I must tell you. Of all the colors I grew, the purple one by far, was the most fragrant. The others were sweet smelling and lovely, but the purple one fills up the whole living room with it's sweet aroma! It's like a glade plug-in!!!
From now on - growing purple hyacinths indoors will be at the top of my list!
