Hi all,
As some here know all five tomatoes that I managed to get planted this year will return next year. But there are others I want to grow next year. One I grew many years ago. Abe Lincoln which back then I ordered from RH Shumway. I would like to get the Buckbee strain of this great tomato. Everyone in my family raved about this one. No cracking or cat facing. Average size was anywhere from 8 to 16 oz. This can be a main crop tomato and used for anything.
Vorlon. Yes I know there have been threads on this one but it has my interest enough to want to try it. I know it is scarce but if anyone has a few pure seeds for this I would love to give it a shot.
Carbon. Seen mixed reviews on this one but would like to try it as well and see how it will fare.
Rouge D' Irak . When still in Bryan OH I tried to get this one out but failed to do so. So I will give it another shot.
There are others I want to try but these are the main four "new" ones I want for 2010.

Hoping that next year is a better one for everyone as well. Wish we could find a cure for 'blight'. My mater plants are just about dead here from the blight. They didn't do so well this year, as in past years. Only got about 6 slicers off of 7 plants, but bunches of yellow pear and quarter sized ones. Next year I am only gonna plant what grows good in Texas and not all these exotics. Even the hot peppers did not do good. I dug up a couple of the hot peppers and brought in the house where they are doing so much better. Lots of blossoms. The sweet peppers are just starting to ripen after being planted in late March.

I have been using Early Girl as the early tomato but I saw one listed I thought would be better. Few days earlier and bigger. I will have to order it. If taste good and bigger it would be great. I have been using Better Boy as main crop. But have other red ones too . I will have to do some seed ordering this coming year. Need check and list what I have then order. I see I have a $2 coupon if I order some seed before end of year. Several tomatoes I want to try plus what I do plant.
Kevin you plan several I never heard of. I have had tomatoes do no good one year and great the next. Like black cherry none the first year and planted the other half the seed pack and had great crop of them. I grow small fruited, small ping pong sizes and long ones and colored one.
I sure hope this coming year will be better.

Hey Colorado, When new catalogs come out you might want to hop over to the Baker Creek site and give Al-Kuffa a try. This is a small tomato on compact plants that will give you a good crop. They are small salad size about 3-4oz size with great flavor. They did great here in Michigan. The tomatoes I mentioned are heirlooms. Vorlon is an heirloom cross and is very hard to get at this time but I have heard it is good. Also I look to see some new introductions from Baker Creek so it might be worth your while to take a look at what they will have next year when they come out with the 2010 line up. Kevin

Kevin, 3 to 4 oz okay for home use but really not what people want to buy. I looked Al Kuffa up. I have Baker Creek and I think they sent me sweet corn as was out of the field corn I ordered. I had marked they could sub but that is not a fair sub as no use to me. And out of watermelon and sent me the kind I have lot of seed for. I will not mark they can sub again that is for sure. I learned hard way. PLus I got a check back for things they did not have. Got to order early. Apparently I did get the tomato I want ordered. I did order some. It adds up so fast . I am glad to know that is a good one. I do buy some from Baker Creek.
I bought some small tomatoes at the stores. Were not eatable and I had net seen seed for that size and said Favortino or such and Trade name and was suppose to taste like a tomato should. I saved the seed. Bigger than grape . No idea if hybrid. I will try them. I grow the Italian drying tomato. I do grow some small tomatoes. Paste and so on. Some times if one does not do good that year another one will. I buy my seed at the seed house here in bulk and but have to send for what they do not have. Only thing is that postage eats me up too. Because too many place I want to order from. And I like to try things.

we only have one variety that doesn't do well here, and I believe we need one of the phorum members who live in a warmer clinate to try it out. It does produce, but the tomato looks like it has weather related problems keeping it from reaching it's full potential It is "Peach Blow Sutton" it looks like an apple, has a "fuzzy" skin, and is a very TOMATO-ee tasting tomato, this one is NOT a low acid tomato if any one would like to arrempt to grow this one who lives further south than Minny sodder, let either I or Laura know. My one request however is to PLEASE...let Us know your results.

Ive started lookin at some of the tomatoes offered by the Italian seed companies, I'm not sure if I will try any but there are some that look promising. I will definitely choose Amish Paste, Sausage, and Alpaca. But I'm opened to any suggestions on other types of sauce tomatoes. As far as sandwich types I like Big Beef, Burpee Delicious. And I think Ill try Mortgage Lifter, or Radiator Charlie....I think that's it. Phil had told me about it so I think Ill give it a go.

Peach Blow Sutton is suppose to be fuzzy and mine never got that big.
Early Girl and Better Boy did hold up under the CTV. Lost at least 200 BB's that first year and some Early Girl. I buy seed of them each year and EG is good tomato. People said both tasted good.
My Italian drying tomato was juicey as got more water and I dip out seed and juice when I did the drying. My first try. Principle Borghese. I plan on them again.

Phil, I spoke with my garden patch and it told me that it would be willing to give it a Big Texas try. Can't guarantee results, but will give it a try.

thats a pic from the old camera and not a good shot, it is small and fuzzy Colorado; about the size of a tennis ball or a bit smaller. we did better with it a few years back, but this year, it was very cool here... Axe, bro they may do great there, Penny, maybe they like cooler weather?? so, PM my memory (Laura) and anyone else, and we'll get them off to you.
Kevin, there's been a debate about the Carbon tomato, but I tell you what, we plant Carbon, and Cherokee purple, and I can't tell them apart...

I think I will plant German, as always. For a paste-type I may go back to a Roma type, not sure which one. I wasn't too happy with Amish paste these last 2 years, too juicy. I did grow Bloody butcher this year for an early, better than nothing until the REAL tomatoes come in.
