Even as I type this, I realise it sounds like a completely ridiculous question, but I have to ask ... We have two fern trees growing in our front garden. If you look up close, you'll notice that there are some plants growing out of the spent stems. I'm imagining that this is from a bird that dropped a seed and it fell into the fern and has germinated there and is happily growing. (I'm typing like I know what I'm talking about, but I truly don't...) Here's the close-up: So here's the question... Can I actually BUY seeds and pop them in there? Can I grow something out of this growing fern? If it is possible, I was really looking for something colourful. Imagine cascading purple flowers! How cool would that be? Or am I just dreaming? Any advice? Thanks! Cheeky in Melbourne, Australia

I have no idea, but why not give it a try. Would be a fun experiment. Some colorful impatients would be a knockout. Whatever you choose I'd try an go with something that is an annual an has the same or near same watering needs as the fern so the fern isn't getting more or less than it needs. trudy
