I think it was a bloom bud, but it looks like it dried up before it could bloom.

Should I remove it?? It's still soft. Not crunchy or anything....

Hi Botesbabe:
No, I wouldn't remove it just yet - wait and see what happens for a bit.
Do you know something? Your cacti are gorgeous, and I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see a full shot of them!
When you have some extra time, would you be so kind as to post another pic of your cacti in full view? I would just love to see them. They look so healthy and wonderful.
Hope to chat soon...

I am leaving the bloom. Just to see what happens. It is still attached well, so I will wait until it is ready to"let go" before removing it HBL- I will try to get a good pic of it later today. I need to separate the babies out and repot them, but just haven't gotten around to it yet....

Okay, can't wait to see the pic!
How old are all these cacti? They just look very healthy and green. Do you fertilize them? I use a 30-10-10 on mine.
Check out my cactus thread too, where I have posted pics of mine, and explained a few things...

Let's see- the big one in the middle was a baby when I got it about 2 or so years ago from a trade. The smaller ones are babies that are continually coming up if I remove the bigger ones. I haven't removed any of these in about a year or so(I ran out of room and pots ). I do not do much of anything with mine. I think I gave them a little compost tea about a year ago, but that is the only thing(other than the occasional watering) that I have done to them. I love cacti because they are low maintenance I am the neglect queen for house plants I'll try to get pics of my aloe-zilla to show you- it is HUGE!! Some of the "leaves" are almost 20 inches long

Ok- Here is the cactus wit a AA battery in there for size referrence- And a coupe more to show the rest of the plant Sorry they are so blurry, but I forgot to change the setting on the camera And here is a shot of my Aloe plants- The one on the right is the one I call "Aloezilla" It was a "rescue" from a nursery. They had left it out and it got frosted on. They were gonna toss it out, but my friend brought it home and left it on top of her freezer all winter and had forgotten it. She was then going to toss it out and I told her I would give it a try. I repotted it in a larger pot, gave it a good drink and left it alone and within a month it was thriving! Right now- the longest "leaf" on it is 18+ inches. almost 19. Apparently it likes me

Thank you so much! I really love my cacti/succulents. They require so little maintenance.... All my other plants scream at me from time to time to pay them some attention, but my cacti/succulents are on cloud nine!

Yes, a picture says a thousand words doesn't it?
Although I started another thread with these pics, here are my two cacti...
The first is a 5 year old plant that has spent two summers outdoors. The first branch developed in the second year, from all my fertilizing!
The second is a 3 year old plant, that had red flowers when I first got it, but I haven't seen any since!
Each plant was only about 4 inches tall when I got them! They certainly have grown.

NO DON'T REMOVE IT! That is a bud and it will all of a sudden one day shoot out longer and then longer and then one night it will open and it will have a large white trumpet bloom and it will smell like gardenias. I have grown these. They are amazing to watch, it may sit there that way for weeks.
But you need to remove a lot of the baby ones they are sucking all the nutrients out of the mother plant.
