I know you all have some, can we start a thread containing only recipes as a quick reference? The how to's, what for's, step by step processes. I don't really have any of my own, but very interested in herbs for healing. Whether its teas, salves or whatever. So come on yawl. I'll start out with this one I made last year with Comfrey Salve. Its really the only one I have. Going off memory here, have misplaced the recipe. If I can ever find it I'll come back an modify. Someone here may have this recipe and will post it with the exact amounts. But for now here it is:
Homemade Comfrey Salve
Will need: Comfrey Carrier Oil Natural Beeswax Vasoline
Using fresh leaves in perfect condition (no tears, bruises, etc), clip off plant and put them in a jar (I used a pint canning jar), add a carrier oil, I used Castor, but can use Jojoba or other oils. Just do cover the leaves (I really packed them in there). Place jar in a dark closet somewhere and every week turn the jar. You might want to set the jar on something like a pan cause it does seem to seap out a little. Do this for 4-6 weeks, your looking for the oil to turn a very dark green and it will become thick.
When the time is up you want to strain the goody from the leaves where only the oil remains. Now having your containers ready on low heat add your comfrey oil using roughly 1/2 c, vasoline adding a few heaping tablespoons at a time and some natural beeswax (can get it from a craft store) and a little goes a long way. So you will have to play around with the amounts, but the goal here is to thicken and set the comfrey oil. Depending on what you are planning to use it for as to how thick you want it. I used baby food jars, the vasoline containers as I emptied them, lip balm tubes, the 4 oz canning jars.

Goldenseal gargle for sore throat etc. Use one larger or 2 small Goldenseal roots (fresh or dry). Boil for 1 minute in a cup of water, covered. Let it steep for an hour to cool. Rinse your mouth or gargle, it doesn't hurt to swallow a bit and let it coat your throat, but be warned it is intensely BITTER. I have heard and read that it's used for some bladder complaints, you might research that. I only use it for sore throat, knocks it right out. You can boil out half the water, cool and add drinkable alcohol to keep the potion around a while. IT WILL TURN GREEN, but still works the same.

Antiseptic Skin Spray
4 ounces Witch Hazel 2 teaspoons 190 proof Ethyl Alcohol (if available) 60 drops Tea Tree Oil
Dissolve the Tea Tree Oil in the ethyl alcohol and then stir into the witch hazel. Pour into a spray bottle. Shake well before using. Spray on minor cuts and scratches. Tip: You can skip using the ethyl alcohol - its main purpose is to help the Tea tree oil dissolve and mix better into the solution. If you do not want to use the ethyl alcohol shaking very well before each use will be necessary.

Cleanser for Acne
1/4 cup Witch Hazel 1 Tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel 10 drops Tea Tree Oil
Apply cleanser with a cotton ball. Use 2 -3 times a day as needed. Tea Tree Oil can effectively help reduce acne inflammation. It works slower than benzyl peroxide lotions but it is gentler on the skin.

Okies here is two that we use every winter... First is : Equal parts of Ginger Flavored Brandy and Honey. This is good for coughs where you cant seem to get the yukky stuff up. The brandy cuts it and the honey coats the throat to help bring it up. Doseage is 1-2 teaspoons. 2 times a day. second is : Mullien Leaves.. Dry them and crush them into a big bowl poor boiling water over them and hold a towel over your head and the bowl. Breathe in deeply and let the steam open your nose & helps with coughs... ( Hubby and dad roll it into rolling papers and smoke it ! I wouldnt advise this, it does have real fine hairs that if you have bronchitis or asthma it might hurt rather than help. ) Dad got this treatment from an ole mountain man who said it was told to his granny by an indian lady sooo... It has been around forever. The brandy and honey can be added to a cup of hot water and a tablespoon of lemon juice for a hot toddy. What is the apples for? I just use the plain flowers I like the taste. You can also put the chamomile flowers in a sachet and put it in your hot bath water to help relax you.

actually Wrennie, Mullien was used in a mixture that used to be available called "uncle Toms asthmador' it came in a tin can, with a pry off top, you would put the powder in the lid, light it, it would smolder and you'd breath it, it was good for many respiratory problems..problem was, it had belladona, and a couple other ingredients, and kids would eat it to get high. I had a picture soomewhere cause thid came up b4, i'll look

To the post about the chemo treatments, something you might want to look into is seaweed. over here the patients are given seaweed to take, either tea, or pills or ground an put into food. its properties are that it takes the metallic toxins out of the body an replaces with many many minerals. ofcourse as the doctor first i would say. but also you can take a seaweed bath. if you can get crushed up seaweed, unless you live by the sea, maybe a health food store? but take the seaweed an put a huge handful in a old nylon an tie at both ends to make a packet. then boil some water an put the packet in an boil for a few minutes to get it to go soft. then take that pan of water an the packet an add to a really nice hot bath, (water you can stand) an soak. you will feel a gel substance all over your body, but that is good. when the gel is gone your body has just soaked up all the nutrients of the sea an your bath is done. also seaweed has a nature way of combating bacteria, so it never has any on it. it adapts as the enviroment changes..... just a helpful thought tho..
