Can someone give me some advice. i have attempted for 2 years to grow dill with no luck. I have tried from seed in a big pot and seeded in the ground. This time I started it in pots in the basement under grow lights but all the plants are spindly little things. Any advice. I make lots of pickles and they get BIG money for a little pack.

I have Dill comming up all over the place. I love the stuff. Planted a whole bunch last year..(fall) so I am hoping it all comes up for me. I just threw the seeds all over & did nothing special for it. Just let it grow.

In past years I let mine go to seed in the garden and it reseeded itself. I started a couple on the windowsill this year just to be sure i have some. They do look spindly when small. Give them lots of light & they'll be fine.

Just scatter it about on the surface and tap down and let it go. Tough to spot initially, so don't hoe it or trample it down. Once ya got it, its there for good. It'll reseed itself for ever.

I don't have any problems growing dill, just keeping the birds out of it once it sprouts. I get so excited to see new plants sprouting, then when I look again, all the leaves have been picked off.

Hmmm, I never seen birds attacking dill? Guess anythangs possible, Although the damage is normally limited to a branch or two... I suppose ifin ya had a BUNCH of Caterpillars workin on them... I love these , they are so pretty on the dill plants, that as long as it's only a limb or two they take...I leave em be! black swallowtail caterpillar:
