Went out to a friend's to see the new baby quail popping out of the eggs in the incubator...Wow...they were popping like popcorn. ..LOL...we will be buying some of them in about two weeks. Went all through his set up, saw the turkeys, guineas, rabbits and babies, quail, the goats...he got a gallon of milk from one this morning...then got to sample his new brew....it was WONDERFUL..a nice robust ale (beer) and it was made out of...are you ready for this ? GREEN TOMATOES. It was so good, also tasted the apricot brandy. Then out to the green house to see the beautiful huge Myer Lemon Tree, the lemons were as big as my outspread hand. He had carrots, asparagus, beets, celery, you name it. Then ended the day eating frozen Japanese persimmons. They have no seeds. Like eating candy. Talk about a great day...I get so many great ideas.....He also grows all his own hops, juniper berries, tobacco, you cannot beleive all that he is growing...tons of red and black raspberries. I left very envious of his knowledge of growing things.I need a misting system set up in mine !
Then went to another friend's farm to buy blackberry bushes.(Apache) He had set up a new greenhouse...25 ft wide by 200 ft. long...really lovely...all one huge roll of heavy plastic, held across the half circle metal beams with ropes...he is doing experimental growing of peach trees for the state of TX...really something to see..they are pruned into a Y shape, will grow out that way....varieties that usually don't grow in our state, they were starting to bloom...really loved looking at everything. He is such a brilliant person, I love to go out there and see everything. The blackberry bushes were planted in buckets down in the ground, a drip system goes hundreds of feet down the rows...you take your shovel and pop up the bucket...he even pruned them for me. I hated to leave, I had so much fun...you can visit too...LOL
