Flood of food imported to U.S., but only 2 percent inspected EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. — At a sprawling warehouse here, two investigators from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration watched intently as 50 boxes of preserved bean curd from China were emptied into a grinding machine. The monstrously loud apparatus worked its way through 1,800 glass bottles, grinding the glass and spewing out a stream of chunky yellow ooze that would be collected, treated and disposed of in the sewer system. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44701433/ns/health-food_safety/This is bullshit....and the government pays our farmers Not to grow products.........our government SUCKS....

That is quite a read, I have been at it for some time. If you click on all the links there is no end. Our imported food is not safe. With only 1800 inspectors nation wide how can it be. CF

The only safe thing to do is leave it on the shelf.

The country is still the greatest in the world, It's the Jack Asses that are running it....they don't encourage small farming in this country anymore in spite of what Obama may be saying about helping promote small business. I can't even sell my produce on my property because I am to small to be protected by the right to farm act. To get a variance the town wants $3,000 plus application fees to apply for one. That doesn't guarantee it will pass. It's all the bureaucratic bull that is ruining this country.
And they won't wave the fee knowing I am a DAV.

And they won't wave the fee knowing I am a DAV. This is one of my pet peaves- Disabled American Veterans should AT THE VERY LEAST have a free ride on all taxes and fees; no property tax on your home, no fees for license of any kind, free car tags, free meds. Without you and what you've done (collectively) NONE of us would enjoy the life we have today, not one.

Thanks for the good words mogarden but there are many vets that have sacrificed a whole lot more then I have and are gettin shafted every day. I have been in the VA hospital here quite a few times and it makes me sick to see how vets much worse off then I am being treated like just another number. I really don't like playing the DAV card and normally don't bring it up, but there are times I just say "hay I payed my dues" how about a little help. NOT!!!! That's the answer. Getting back to cavemans post though the farmer here is the one that is really suffering, because the government would rather import food then use domestic resources, and that sucks.

You're right the farmers are hurting. Maybe farms will have to get together and hire a promotional guy, (should be some out of work about now) to push the "buy locally" thing. One good thing about disease scares on produce and meat- the closer to home you buy yer food, the less hands it has to go thru.

the closer to home you buy yer food, the less hands it has to go thru. I like that statement mogarden. Mind if I use it when I get started selling here.

MY son edits a little paper and he had been promoting for some years now to buy local. Shop local and eat local foods. Trying to promote and get people to buy from local stores and the farmers.
But look what happened to the melons at Rocky Ford. Where did it come from? I don't think they have that figured out. Things can happen locally too. Animals, birds or the fertilizer?
My niece in OK pay very little on property taxes. Her husband was vet and I take first time they bought they got this tax reductions. Pays like $18 or $20 on the place.
Colorado has something for returning disabled vets on property taxes. Senior 65 and over suppose to get a reduction in taxes here and the state only does if they have extra money. There are too broke now to give it. But I think the vets got it last year.
