Well it's that time of year for us again, got most all my seed catalogs in now it's time to start making seed selection. I'm going threw four different catalogs. Harris Seeds, High Mowing OS, Seed Savers Exchange, and Johnnies Selected Seed. I haven't really tried saving seed from season to season, and I probably should....It's one thing I just haven't gotten into. Now that we have to use certified Organic seed or untreated seed it sort of narrows down our choices.

I don't get many seed catalogues in the mail anymore. It's costly for seed companies to send catalogues to people who don't order every year, like myself. And the cost of postage from the U.S. to Canada is so high now that companies like Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds wants $5 to send me a catalogue. So I just order online when needed, But I must admit I miss the cold winter nights where I would line up 3 or 4 catalogues across the coffee table, mark which varieties in each that I would like to buy, do a comparison and then do it all again before making a final decision to purchase what and from whom. Here's another company whose catalogue pholks might enjoy. I hear they have excellent seed counts and good quality seed. I have been gifted some of their eggplant seed in the past, and they all germinated, but the weather was cold and wet that summer and so I never had the opportunity to enjoy the product. www.growitalian.com/request-a-catalog/

Oh and there eggplant seed is very good. I have to try sticking with Organic seed when ever I can though and they don't have a lot to offer....still they do have many good verities especially if you are looking for unusual verities.

Cavey, that is a great Seed Company fer sure [image] Yes I will definitely second that they have the best beans I have ever ate. Ralph didn't do so bad when he was here two seasons ago with the nickle beans, and I have to admit they are delicious tasting. And I wasn't a bean eater until now ;D I purchased more seed this year and also purchased some Vincent Watts Tomatoes. caveman is right they have top grade seed. I wouldn't buy bean seed any place else.

I've gotten several catalogs but I had to go online and ask for them, most don't send them out automatically any more. I ordered a couple things from Burpee and together with a few packs left from last year, I have enough seeds to plant my minimal container garden. I'm feeling fairly good for the time being, hope it lasts till spring. I like spring. We had big old snowflakes today but the ground wasn't frozen and air temp was like 39F so no accumulation but it made for a Christmas-y day to go to walmart, lol. Bought ice cream. Ahem...I nearly drifted off there, lol. My seed shopping is probably done for the year but I still enjoy looking at the catalogs and reading a hundred ways this kind of whatever is better than all others....

All I can say is the catalogs are EYE candy for us. Then we buy stuff & the garden is bursting with new & different plants. I LOVE the new catalogs & we will be trying new varieties this next year!

Kinda like the Sears catalog we used to get around this time so we could look at all the toys we wanted but our parents couldn't afford. Sure was fun lookin at all that stuff, I used to ware the pages out every year.
