My Grandma Phoebie nearly always had a pound cake on the counter every time we'd visit. My Mom got the recipe from her MANY years ago, and gave me a copy a few years before she passed on. It is best when you do NOT use the imitation flavorings, only the "real deal". The recipe is as follows:
• PHOEBIE BARTLETT JOINER'S POUND CAKE RECIPE *** (COURTESY OF DAUGHTER-IN-LAW MARY JOINER)
2 AND 1/2 CUPS SUGAR
8 EGGS
3 AND 1/2 CUPS PLAIN FLOUR
2 STICKS MARGARINE (NON-SALTED BUTTER BETTER)
1 CUP CRISCO SHORTENING
1 CUP WHOLE MILK
1/4 TEASPOON SALT
1 TEASPOON BAKING POWDER
1 TEASPOON FLAVORING (PREFERABLY NOT IMITATION!) OF YOUR CHOICE (GRANDMA PHOEBIE PREFERRED REAL VANILLA)
SIFT FLOUR, SALT, BAKING POWDER TOGETHER, SET ASIDE
MIX SUGAR, MARGARINE AND CRISCO. ADD EGGS ONE AT A TIME AND BEAT.
ADD FLOUR AND MILK ALTERNATELY, BEATING AFTER EACH ADDITION UNTIL ALL INGREDIENTS ARE ADDED.
POUR INTO GREASED AND FLOURED 10 INCH TUBE (BUNDT) PAN, BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 1 AND 1/2 HOURS UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.
*** DON'T FORGET THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT OF THEM ALL - A LARGE ABUNDANCE OF LOVE & CARING FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!!
