Jack: I read the stats on gun control and crime, I really think the problem here is gun misuse, in light of the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I support the change in removing military type firearms from the general public also those large capacity magazines. There is no need for them on the streets weather they are owned by law bidding citizens or not. I am a firearms owner and have been for more then 50 years and I am a certified firearms instructor as well as a disabled veteran, who was trained to use military arms and was a qualified expert with them. I support proper education in the safe use and handling of them as well. In the USA we have a constitution that supports the legal ownership of firearms for a trained militia.....meaning the right to protect this country from foreign or domestic threats of war. Also we have a long history of hunting as well. I also support safe target practice as well as competition, my wife is a past NJ state ladies C class trap shooting champion. I say all of this to give you an understanding of my support and feelings about gun ownership. But I do not support the sale and use of assault rifles or those large capacity magazines. Like anything else we need good common sense about these things.....you wouldn't allow people to drive 120 MPH on the roads here just because there car can go that fast. so why allow such firearms to be placed in the hands of everyone just because we are allowed to own firearms.

JC, don't quite agree. I have big guns and large clips for them. Have had them for lots of years, they haven't killed anybody yet. I think I need to have whatever makes me feel safe. A dozen of them suckers come through my door uninvited gonna be in for one hell of a surprise. I don't use them but I can if I need to. CF

When you outlaw guns only outlaws will have them. JC, I am with you. Shoot to kill, drag them out side, call the police and say you heard gun shots and would they please come and check it out. Or in my case: grab a cement block, tie it around their leg, drop them off just above the dam, and don't say a word. When the lake drops, they may or may not be found. The only way you will get my guns is over my cold dead body. Then I come back to haunt the criminals. I told the chief of police one time I wanted to get a rocket launcher, and heat seeking missiles, to launch at the speeding cars and trucks, as they go by. I was told 'you better not'

Our generation is nothing like the present, keep that in mind.

There is no need for them on the streets weather they are owned by law bidding citizens or not. Im sorta with you.We used to have a HUGE problem with gangs and driveby shootings, like almost daily it was that bad.The 'assault' type weapons outlawed and so went the drive-bys,NOTHING like it was before. So Mac-10's.Uzi's,really no use for them because they get into the hands of 16 year old KIDS with no brains. Now,on the AK ,AR and such, its just another semi auto rifle.Do we need 30 round mags,I dont think so,but I also only see responsible folks with those weapons and ten is max here anyhow. So outlawing a semi auto rifle, just because it 'looks scary' doesnt cut it for me. So an AK,ten rounds,is reasonable in this neck of the woods because of the gang problem. Now you might say you dont have a gang problem.....give it time, you will, they are expanding like cockroaches.Calif just seems to get the trends first is all. So thats my take. Onerous registration, etc,on law abiding citizens is a violation of 2nd amendment, period, and I dont support that.I also think think concealed and open carry are RIGHTS and thats been severely abused on the 2nd amendment. Regardless, what the law is,it is,Im not going to Cowboy and say come and get me to the Feds, the control is at the ballot box, rule of LAW IMO. Oh,they make getting a handgun a PIA here, dont like it.ONLY stops the law abiding.

Lets just say I have a different point of view on military firearms, as I have already made my point. This generation of young people have much different values then I do, and that is what concerns me. Also the types of firearms available today are much more advanced in fire power then they we in our generation......what else can I say.......I have every confidence that I can protect myself and my loved ones in my environment, it's out in the street that concerns me. I don't know how many people here have served in the military during war, but those that have realize how cruel it can be, we don't need that sort of environment here.

I just wish I heard everyone including the president talking about mental health care reform. What happened to that HUGE issue? That should up front #1 on the tables then guns. You can't even get a mentally ill person a place to go to even thou it's a knowen fact they often need"checkups" that include a PLACE TO CHECK INTO. this alone would save hundreds of stabbins, shootings, and violent crimes.Sending them to jail only to release back with no mental help indangers all of us. Lack of mental health clinics is costing us lives more then guns by far. Use to work with families and know this issue well.

Funny thing yesterday I seen in the news they are destroying plastic guns with the pink and red tips on them (Toy guns) because they take the tip off and use them to rip people off or robberies and such ... I am really? So destroy all these guns, they are going to make them clear plastic .. Ohhhhh k well the thugs will just paint them black but ok do what you have to do ... Why do they waste so much money on crap!! Why don't they put that money into something better for the world!!

Because that would make sense and our government all sides has lost all common sense long ago and they are only getting worse. LOL,now he's trying to extend how long he can be president AGAIN. Please I can't take his smug snotty face everyday now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still don't hear one word about mental health ,just guns. i know alotta families that really hoped this would put mental health upfront .Poor people, and poor us when thier loved ones go off on them and us!But guns are not the problem. They are eating people with their teeth here in Florida. 4 cases alone last year in the USA that I heard of. No guns were involved just MENTAL HEALTH LEFT TO WONDER OUR STREETS.Thanks president.

The arrested guy in camo running from cops at Sandy Hook? "The other one, and the troubling one, was an off duty tactical(as in SWAT) officer from another county. He was also reported by the Newtown Bee newspaper as armed. This is the one that was supposed to have been chopping wood down in the woods. Video does not show him chopping wood down in the woods. It shows him running from the school campus past what looks like the gym with cops chasing him. Looks like he is running his azz off from police. This is the one that they eventually prone out in the woods and is wearing cammo pants and a dark jacket." What was this guy all about? www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDrhhb0B5f8&feature=player_embedded#! Looks like Feinstein has her ban going, see what happens in The Repub controlled House. The thing I notice most is not so much the platform but the ammo,223,that seems to be on the hit list.Seems the are deadly afraid a common ammo might be in hands of citizens? Is THAT the agenda?? Did I see that right, bans mags OVER 9 rounds, doesnt that about take out every mag short of a Mini Ranch? Does that make this an attack on every semi auto weapon out there that has a magazine? That cant be right,it has to be over ten. Also ban includes more than ONE military characteristic like folding stock, thumbhole stock, pistol grip,....flash suppressor, protruding magazine (?) Also, since cant transfer gun, does the owner die and it gets seized? I see registration of all current on list is mandatory or you become a felon! =============================== What guns does California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein want banned? On Jan. 24, 2013 Feinstein unveiled her banned weapons wish list. She introduced legislation instituting a government ban on more than 150 types of firearms, including rifles, pistols and shotguns. The ban would also limit ammunition magazine to 9 rounds each."Getting this bill signed into law will be an uphill battle, and I recognize that - but it is a battle worth having," Feinstein said at a news conference to announce the bill. A previous ban expired in 2004 after 10 years. The Daily Caller has the list here and according to their scan it includes these weapons: Rifles: AK, AK-47, AK47S, AK-74, AKM, AKS, ARM, MAK90, MISR, NHM90, NHM91, Rock River Arms LAR-47, SA85, SA93, Vector Arms AK-47, VEPR, WASR-10, and WUM, IZHMASH Saiga AK, MAADI AK47, and ARM, Norinco 56S, 56S2, 84S, and 86S, Poly Technologies AK47 and AKS, All AR types, including the following: AR-10, AR-15, Armalite M15 22LR Carbine, ARmalite M15-T, Barett REC7, Beretta AR-70, Colt Match Target Rifles, DoubleStar AR rifles, DPMS Tactical rifles, Heckler and Koch MR556, Olympic rms, Remington R-15 rifles, Rock River Arms LAR-15, Sig Sauer SIG516 rifles, Smith & Wesson M&P15 Rifles, Stag Arms AR rifles, Sturm, Ruger & Co. I too am a disabled veteran, even before I joined the Army at the ripe old age of 17 I was taught gun safety by the family. I do not have a problem with large capacity magazines - when/if you are attacked by any number of people wanting your stuff, it saves on reloading time. Also, there is a very nearby swamp with hungry alligators...just saying...."Shoot, Shovel, Shutup", aka "save the taxpayers time and money"......You invade my home, you WILL be shot, no if's and's, but's about it....We may not have much, but we will do our BEST to keep it....

Ohhh the politics really tick me off on this .. But I'm hoping America as a people are much stronger than the government because I think things are going to go haywire in not to long of time ..

Amen, Sister Rita - I tell all my family and friends, IF they can find it, to stock up on ammo, and do NOT keep it all in one place! the same with foodstuffs, water, medical supplies, etc. It's coming, and it is NOT going to be pretty at all. The 'bleeding heart' liberals are going to be in for a BIG surprise when they have NOTHING left....
