I got a metal detector for Christmas!
During a warm spell I took the metal detector out and I am now one piece of wire richer! Well, I had to prove that it worked, didn't I?
I HAD intended to go to the back of my yard. I don't believe the ground has been disturbed for a very loong time, and where I live it used to be a homestead. The land would have been graded around the houses, but it looks like the back near the fence has never been touched.
Well, I WAS headed back there, when the machine went off! It beeped right in the middle of my lawn!
I just HAD to dig that up: there was no guarentees that the machine would beep again in my yard! So, I dug the half-frozen ground up with my trowel.
Next time I will use a shovel. Definately.
So, I found a 2 inch bit of wire, about 6 inched down. I kept the wire, just for phun!
When it is honestly warm (instead of the ground can barely be dug warm), there is a low spot on a creek that I intend to take it to. The Oregon trail passed by here, and it looks to me like a place where pioneers would spend the night. I wonder if I can find any old horeshoes? Nails? Unidentifiable bits??
