I started asparagus from seed this year. Never heard of doing it that way before but I got sprouts! I tried to plant crowns last year and got nothing. Now I just need 'the' spot to put them.

Good. Is it a variety that gives you all or mostly male plants? Some seed will give you half and half, and you have to thin out the females if you don't want to have the birds scatter seeds all around. Plus the seedlings will mess up your rows and fill it all in solid.
I don't think they CAN BE all female. Half and half or the special all-male strains. If you have an older strain that turns out to have a lot of females, separating them is the opposite of that "other" plant. The fat ones are the males you want to keep and weed out those scrawny females. LOL

Bestofour it is not difficult to grow, I grow it! If I can do it anyone can..... I have no clue what I am doing when it comes to asparagus ... We have wild Asparagus growing across the creek and we eat that also
