The asparagus...12 started out here as 6 packs,2 in 4 inch pots. All doing great but one,and thats because Snooky decided the garden needed excavating,Thanks Snooky. The peas and artichoke and brussells sprouts continue to thrive Bestofour, you need what Mrs is calling instant gratification, the containers for us urban gardeners and such. The containers got proofed last year with the topsy turveys, had squash (powdery mildew killed em as always)but proofed the concept, containers will grow things. I planted last batch of 25 radishes per pot, cover, sprinkle in the carrot seeds, cover, and away we go.Instant plant love, boy is that fun!Planting those about every 10 days or so,two buckets.Tina, the best foraging Chicken, scoping out the greenery.... Now this Im really pleased with.Said salad medley on seed pack, and has great potential here with our cool temps

not sure I understand what you're saying. Does rhubarb stay over winter and isn't large enough until the 2nd year?

Can rhubarb be cooked like potatoes or am I thinking of turnips or parsnips?

I think your thinking Turnips and Parsnips!! Rhubarb kinda resembles celery ... like a red celery , the leaves are actually poisonous (So I have read) It is usually mixed with strawberries , for pies or jam.

I'll have to look at it next time I go to the grocery store. So it's not eaten alone?

w8in, did you plant rhubarb this year? If not, maybe that's why she hasn't been around.

The new strawberries are even putting out berries. Question, how do you propagate more strawberries?
The Meyer Lemon sure is a prolific little tree,it has about 7 fruits almost ping pong ball sized, and tons of babies. The Eureka pink lemonade lemon has some babies growing, the mandarin satsuma has a baby growing. One of the pears has a couple babies growing.Oh,and the peas are just so good fresh off the vines, excellent sweet yummies.
The sweet 100 toms have a bunch of babies, wont be long before eating those.
Time soon to go out to sit and enjoy the garden

My container garden is using many of the seeds from seed corps. I gave them a 20 dollar donation but you can get them free, must use regular mail,no email.Got these April 2010. Well Heck, just called them and seed Corps is no more,BUMMER! Planted 2 containers dill,1 of beets look like carrots and another of mixed salad greens of leafy types. I consider the containers as square foot gardening raised beds. Doubled garden size and fenced with 4 foot chicken wire. All 14 asparagus are thriving, planted more peas,2nd planting 3 inches high, eating raw,oh so sweet. The Eureka lemon is tossing out lemons,as is the Meyer,so they must be three year old citrus dwarfs.Talk about instant gratification. They can grow 6 feet,so if you want citrus, now, this is a great way to go,they grow full size fruits.

Those radishes look good and healthy. The round red ones seem hotter to my taste. I like the French breakfast, especially those few in every pack that are purple and white vs. red and white. Purple ones are mild. Chop them in the blender before adding to a salad.('specially if you don't have alla yer teeth, like me, LOL.

Also the salad medly was used in salad yesterday, boy was that tasty.Another container success that will be expanded for next year. Been eating peas before peas form in pods, boy, what a yumm that is! Now its see what happens with the carrots and beets that are carrot shaped, also have dill going. Is it normal for hot peppers to take a billion years to grow? Mine sure are taking a long time seems to me. Asparagus continues to amaze, what a pretty fern these young-uns are.Growth is explosive, very pleased.

Pulled a little 1/4 lb better boy mater from garden today, first ripe one.The sweet 100 cherry tom sure is prolific, must have at least 200 toms on it and flowering like crazy, amazing how prolific it is.Been eating a half dozen to dozen a week so far.
The Dill Mrs planted in a pot sure is doing well, our first successful Dill planting.
Been saving radish seed, got a ton of them growing.Saved the 5 foot climbing Pea's,boy were they yummy, ate them whole fresh from garden, will expand that planting. Both artichoke and Brussels sprout doing great, huge, cant wait for them to flower.
Asparagus bed is beautiful, hope I can find more of those next year.Every single plant lived and is doing great, want to largely expand that bed next season.
Couple of the apple tree's already starting to lose leaves, and down to mid 40s already at night, guess early spring means early fall maybe.
