Love the online shopping. My latest was to get the best prices I could for 20 mule team borax and arm and hammer washing soda.Add zote bar soap and make my own liquid laundry soap, looks like it will cost 16 cents on the dollar vrs store bought. Weve made powdered before and works fine as far as I can tell. I'll do a pictorial when we make it,its dang simple what Ive read.Figure I can make 4 gallons for 1.85? We will see when I actually do it I will figure costs.1 cup per load.... Hmmm...I should see if I can make dishwasher soap, that stuffs pricey! ====================================

Spuds, I bought stuff that time to make soap and now have a HE washer and takes just a little cheer in the cup in machine. Jug went over 8 months. Jug is suppose to do 64 loads. This GL is good sized machine. Just me to wash for. I wash in cold water and does okay. I never counted the loads but how long it lasts. I think a jug cost around $13. I have never measure how much a load.

We tried the homemade dishwasher soap. Its 2 parts Borax,2 parts Washing soda and 1 part salt or Epsom salt.Fill rinse pocket dispenser with vinegar instead of Finish Jet-Dry,huge money saver there.Jet dry costs 1666% more than vinegar. Use 1 TBS in door and one in door dispenser....worked GREAT however, thats only one load, lets see how they look in a couple weeks. ================================== Spuds, Since my hands have been so bad I have used the dish washer,,Can't say it does good job. Cascade. All I have been using. I do use Downey in the washer. =================================== Evening pholks, Spuds: Ruth wanted me to tell you that she uses vinegar in the wash on the rinse cycle, one cup to get all the soap out and it also softens the clothes.

My washer has small cup deal and no way would hold a cup of anything or the soap cup. Front loader . Some times I put less softener. I do not put any thing in the dryer. White vinegar??? Last of the jug of soap was getting thick and guess should have add water. ? I do that on dish soap. Vinegar has came up in price. ============================ Spuds, Since my hands have been so bad I have used the dish washer,,Can't say it does good job. Cascade. All I have been using. I do use Downey in the washer. Per my reading the softer your water the better the dishwasher works.Somehow salt is supposed to help for hard water and spots?Rinse agent really helps in the dishwasher. And very hot water too. Vinegar, wonder cleaner for sure,Ive read about using it in rinse on clothes for softening, has to be cheaper than softener. And not a chemical factory either like commercial stuff.Suppose to be the bee's knee's in a dishwasher, really cleans the scale up too in machine.I tossed in a splash when started yesterday, came out really nice,as nice as commercial far as I can see,the proof will be if it starts clouding glasses. Im really surprised what a price rip off household soaps are,and so easy to make your own.The homemade laundry uses just one tablespoon per load,2 for extra dirty, thats pretty darn cheap when its just borax and washing soda and bar soap.Instead of soap for dishwasher you add either salt, lemonell or ascorbic acid to mix, going to play with it,got the lemonell (sp) at regular grocery store last night, when we determine optimal mix for our use going to run with it,that homemade dishwasher is 67-75% cheaper than commercial, adds up. I believe the adage, watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.Whenever I see 20-50% off on sale, its what I buy.Might only save a dollar on a case of something, but the big picture, saving 25% or more overall on grocery, that adds up to a pretty penny. Big box includes 30 lbs borax at 20 bucks(and 40 rolls scot tissue at 50 cents a roll,12% cheaper than sale prices here, needed to get to 35 dollars for free shipping),smaller box washing soda 50 lbs at 56 bucks.Delivered to the door, like that.At a tablespoon per washer,or 2 tablespoons per dishwasher load, thats a LOT of loads for 75 bucks!(not counting vinegar or bar soap, still very cheap). ============================ Colorado: Vinegar is a natural product, comes from fermentation of grapes, apples, and other fruits.white vinegar is distilled. Ruth buys vinegar here for less then $2.00 a gallon, she buys it in two gallon per box quantities. I often use vinegar in my marinade for meats to help tenderize it. Vinegar can be used for tons of things....use a teaspoon when cooking rice and it will be much fluffier. It's also a good sanitizer for washing counter tops and wood floors, it also deters ants in the kitchen. ================================== Spuds: Ruth just looked up the sails receipt and the price for two gallons of vinegar was $3.58 no tax =============================== I looked up how white vinegar is made. Seems a lot if distilled is made of corn. Another not distilled is more chemical. Wine vinegar from grapes and such. White vinegar made of grains and distilled. Lot of corn now is GMO. I guess they turn the alcohol into vinegar. ================================== We are now adding the lemonell at 1.5 TBS to about 4 cups of mixture.Dishes are CLEANER than using Finish, the glasses sparkle without water spots. Guess I will buy the Citric acid as its cheaper and will do the same thing. Again, early in the experiment but the dishwasher soap seems a HUGE hit.

You guys will love this, local store had vinegar 2 gals for 4 dollars, save 2.38 so bought it.Now it may not be best for cooking, etc, but cleaning, super.
So we are cleaning dishwasher filters, stuff would not come off screen,Mrs put vinegar in sink and its dissolving crud food crap right off,a little brushing, working good.
It said 50 grain, grain is 10 times percentage,so that means it 5%,been reading some vinegar is no longer 5% but 4%.

Oh,and they can call the vinegar made with petroleum product 'natural' So the 20% is petro, and then when you see 10% its almost always diluted 20%. This vinegar we got says 'diluted' and natural,so I'll bet its actually the petrol kind, told Mrs OK for cleaning but we will use the better stuff for cooking/canning. Lots to learn about vinegar I see....

OMG Not in this thread .. But I have to say... We have gotten and I have even bragged about the baking spray that is called "Bakers Joy" And it has petroleum or some something in it! I was like ... Are you kidding me? It has that stuff in it and people want me to cook for my grand children with that? OMG ... I am telling you! Something is wrong with a country who lets that stuff go into their food ... sad sad sad!! On our clothes and in our food!! Sad sad sad!!
