Yes it is true folks we are barely in to winter and already looking at starting seeds for the 2014 season . We can start planting maters and peppers from March 15 to April 10. That means dropping seeds in January. And not just veggies. I have an array of flowers to start too. Pansy's for early spring and then marigolds and petunias and other favorites like cosmos , ageratum, larkspur and celosia for loads of color. What maters ,peppers , eggplant pumpkins and melons I will plant is still up for debate for the most part .Some pumpkins I want are on back order while others are available .Maters well I still have a great bunch without buying any seeds . Peppers I could use a few.Eggplant seeds are lacking and like tomatoes you can never have enough pumpkins.
As I mentioned in an earlier thread I will be getting my supplies from Greenhouse Megastore . They have the best products and a diverse selection to fit any gardeners needs. Not to mention great prices to fit your budget.2014 promises to be a fun garden season here . Can't wait to get started.

I have some good hot peppers to try and some favs. thank goodness they don't take lots of room . Bhut Jalokia ,Scotch Bonnet,Butch-T ,lemon drop, jalapeno,Serrano and habs. Have at least 3 heirloom Italian bells and am looking to get some Giant Marconi. Also for the melons I found a Tuscan melon on Johnny's site . I discovered the Tuscan melons this year and boy are they sweet and great for a healthy snack.I can see these in a melon salad or fruit salad.Another melon I found on Johnny's site is a honey dew melon called Snow Leopard which is a personal melon. Here is a link Snow Leopard Honeydew A bit pricey but sounds like it's worth trying.

When I saw info on it I started searching. I was thinking the three hottest peppers in my garden. Should be interesting to see how they handle Texas weather. Also as we come closer to the new year I am looking at sending off a new order to the Greenhouse Megastore. Still not sure about ordering tomato seeds as I have plenty to see us through. But I am looking at getting some good Italian eggplant and certainly Bell and hot peppers.Gonna miss having corn as we just would not have the room.Cukes and some other vine crops will be growing up the chain link fence and I will be giving fava beans a try in early spring for the first time. And lots of flowers with marigolds as the star and will plant French types in the veggie garden to ward off bad guy bugs. We do have some snails but I kinda hate to kill them cuz of the neat color on their shell so we will just have to see if they leave the garden alone. I know wishful thinking.

Its too bad that you don't have somewhere, where you could grow the corn...shame you have to stop growing it. Is there a side of the house that would work, just a small patch?

You know I came to the realization just two days before I get paid I need a grow light. But holiday bills being paid next month I gotta wait till February to get it. So gonna start seeds the last week in January. Normally I put my seed trays by a south window but we are not getting enough sunlight through them. Greenhouse Megastore will be coming to the rescue since they have a 4ft jump start grow light for about 69 bucks compared 75 to 100 at all the major seed companies and Amazon or Ebay. Not a bad deal.

What about using a desk top lamp, you know the kind that kids use to study with(haha)...those are pretty cheap at Walmart, if you don't have one.

Seed starting supplies are here! So are my petunia seeds.Wave petunia and my favorite bi-color double the Pirouette Series. All three are going to be started for the new flower bed. The Wave petunias will be in planters and hanging baskets. Some cities such as Hillsdale Michigan get large hanging baskets and hang them on the downtown lamp post. Hillsdale normally has Purple Wave and are stunning when in full bloom and all spread out . bunch of other flowers too including French marigolds to help with the pest.
Tomatoes. not gonna be easy to choose what ones to start with except for these. Al-Kuffa,Thessaloniki , Giant Italian Paste,Cour di Bue,Rose,Hoy,Cowlick's Brandywine,Soldacki,Black Krim,Earl's Faux,Brandywine Sudduth strain,Abe Lincoln , Pruden's Purple and Italian Red Pair (Franchi Seed Co.).Ok maybe it was not so hard.

Oh dear. I can't find most of my peppers the envy I had them in is missing found the fatali ,Bhut Jalokia, some bells, Cayenne and Hungarian Wax now where did that envelope go? I feel like the Second Doctor looking through the TARDIS for his recorder. not good. Heck I wish I had a TARDIS then I could go back in time to find out what I did with them. Hmmmmmmm better yet go back to 2012 before we lost the house and pack ALL my seeds in my suite case so I don't worry about having em down here.
