We took some time out today & did some much needed transplanting..we got 3 & 1/2 flats out of 3 flats of plants..3 are ours the rest are for sale. We have 4 flats to do on Easter. Then we are done with the transplanting. We have to get the larger greenhouse up so we can have all the plants outdoors.
The plants we have to do tomorrow are mainly peppers & a flat of tomato plants. If that many.
We have 9 flats of tomato plants out in the greenhouse now. Plus the onions, and the artichokes..& cabbage plants..48 of those..I sold heads of cabbage for 5-7 dollars last year!!

Update We just yesterday alone planted the following..
136 hills of potatoes
70 feet of beets 2-35 foot rows
140 feet of carrots 4-35 foot rows
140 feet of onions 4-35 foot rows
We finished planting the 48 heads of cabbage they are very happy to be in the ground.
Today they are calling for rain..so..we kinda have a lil break from planting. The rest of the week is supposed to be in the 70's.
I may have forgot a few things..it is windy here & it is tough on you when planting.

good grief. Do you take all this to the farmers market?

Post by Laura on May 22, 2014 7:58:43 GMT -6
BOF..we take a huge amount of things to the market..I do not take my beets when they are fresh..we turn them into pickled beets. They sell like crazy!
We do take carrots, onions, no potatoes. We grow those for our eating.
The list is a pretty long one..when we have time I will post what we take!

maybe you should sell your pickled beets with the stuff you sell on here. Do you eat all of those potatoes? I guess they keep better for you than for me since we don't get that cold.

I sell a lot of the beets at the market. They might be a bit pricy to send via the snail mail.?? I will get a list of things we sell there.

After many days of very hard work we HAVE the WHOLE GARDEN planted.!!! Except for a few things we plan on sticking in places that have a bit of room.
This is the LARGEST garden we have planted. I will get a complete list when I get a few extra minutes. Plus we will take a few pics when the plants are not covered with garden dirt. It has rained 2.96 inches in the last 18 hours. What is really strange is that it has all soaked in the ground. When Phil tilled for the final plantings it was very dry. I think we shall do very well at the markets this year. As we have several items planted that people will come for. List to follow!

what happened to your first corn?
Your garden looks great by the way. How do you keep it so clean?

The garden has gone crazy in some areas. Green beans are producing nicely for us! The artichokes are Imperial Star chokes for the northern climates. They are doing well! Took some to the market yesterday & sold all of them. People were very surprised to see them! Our Okra will be next. However we really enjoy it so I am not sure how much will make it to the market. Took a handful of ripe tomatoes with us also & they were gone pretty fast. Today is kraut making day!
Weather here..rained a bit yesterday & a couple very small chances in the forecast for the next 14 days. Nothing major..no ground pounders in sight..no measurable rain period! & it is dry! Garlic is pulled & hanging..305 heads!!

And now it is mid October..let the garden rest for the fall & winter. We have peppers out in the garden yet. I just have to pull em off the plants. We have been hit by frost several times here & things really never died. Now they are done & we are going to get our garlic planted here soon.
We have lots of fresh dried peppers for our Hot Chocolates. I used some tonight & wow..talk about sneezing.
It is all fun & we will do one more out door farmers market here & then take a couple weeks off & go indoors.
We are busy making different items for the markets. Esp. candy.
Work has been...well work. A major printing company bought the company out & all sorts of changes are taking place..S-T-R-E-S-S..would sum it up!!
Take care everyone!!
