Something I have been dealing with for years is,small battery discharge in the winter months especially on my rider mowers/tractors. I started using a small battery trickle charger, one that is no larger then a small shoe, but can maintain a battery's charge when the machine sets idle for long periods in the off season. I use mine to keep all my batteries up to par. I was ready to replace my JD rider battery a few times but decided to give this small battery charger a try...that cost much less then a battery, and who-la it saved the day. I have known about trickle chargers but just was to set on replacing batteries instead of using the darn thing...dumb choice. You might want to try one if you don't already have one.
Question now; I am constantly having to add air to my tires on my small JD rider. It seams like the smaller tires just won't hold air for long before you need to pump them up. Anyone have any good suggestions on how to maintain proper air pressure in the smaller tires? I'm getting tired of trying to keep them inflated.

Jc, I guess I haven't had the tire pressure problem except with one I know has a rim leak...once every two months it needs air..but..right now..it's on a jack high enough to keep the tire off the ground until spring.. the battery thing..I bring mine in and sit them on the work bench (wood) and don't charge them till spring...I know that don't help on a unit being used during the winter... I usually get 4-5 years outa a cheapo farm store battery that way

Small tires for me are a real pain in the ass, I just don't have much luck with them...you may have hit on one thing about the rim leaks. I have submerged tires in water and sprayed them with soapy water before and not seen a bubble and still have them loose pressure. I just can't seam to lock it down to one thing.
Yes removing your batteries in winter for equipment that sits Idle can help, but this little battery trickle charger is really great for getting even more life out of them. As for cheap batteries I really don't think expensive is any better then cheap today.

Spuds: I really don't know the name of of the charger, but it's a small trickle charger for 12 or 6 volt batteries, it measures about 8"LX4"WX3"H Same type they use for Motor Cycle Batteries. It also works for my large 6V tractor Battery and the larger 12V.

Dave swears by trickle chargers! He uses them all the time! I do think there may be a small leak in the tires tho. Maby add a lil more soap? There has been times hubbs was ready to gve up an looking for the leak and bam we ended out finding it. Small , very small but was the culprit! So don't dismiss the rim leak or very small leak.

I gotta say that I been skeered of them trickle chargers...even tho I have one that is a charger/trickle charge.. Friend down south burned his truck and shed up when one set fire..
I find a few of the slow air leaks to be the air valve ..I think they get pretty ruffed up..esp. here in the frigid freakln' weather.. and the stem itself..I had a leak on the old tiller...which got better after I found the stem cap..so I replaced the stem

Like phil said.......check the valve stem and the valve inside, sometimes they get loose.....if all else fails puy about 1/4 can of fix-a-flatin'em and ride around for awhile.

I have done all of those things bro changed valve cores and checked valve stems no leeks, it has to be in the rims. These damned tubeless tires are a pain. Ill try taking them off the rim and clean up the rims and then see what happens, if-fin that don't work then Ill get tubes. I don't have that problem with the bigger tractor tires.

I just seen a trickle charger for sale on HQ that you plug into the thing inside your car to charge it! And there was no putting it on the battery wrong it had a siren and red blinky light that would go off if you did put it on a battery and did it wrong. I almost was going to get one for Dave. But decided against it.

My oldest grandson broke a cardinal rule and it cost him 1/2" of his finger, trying to check the fan belt on his car when it was running. His father has told him many times never to work on an engine when it's running. I don't know what else to say except "ouch"!!

Doubt it could start a diesel tho..that takes major power, started my dual battery diesel twice in a row when alternator went out with this one below . Dont know if any more powerful, this was the most when I bought a few years ago in 2009,still 128 dollars.Has a 12 volt outlet on it www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JFJLP6/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

The only reason we want this one is for the motorcycles .. easy to tote around with you .. | I don't know if it would work on a diesel but it was still almost fully charged when he started his wife's van

I don't really like driving from store to store to store to get all the odd items on my list! you could always youtube some video's and see if it doesn't show some results on diesels or watch this one

Well the charger looks like a great compact Idea for a lot of things we use, like the ladies and there cell phones while driving now they can talk uninterrupted while in the car on the way to the nail salon.Very handy for a lot of things though....I wonder if I could use one to electrocute a G Hog. Seriously though If I didn't have two chargers a two Jumper chargers I probable would buy one. Rita for high jacking my post.
