| Under new FDA rules, draft animals used to plow and work farms may become illegal. “Now, farmers are discovering that the FDA’s proposed rules would curtail many techniques that are common among organic growers, including spreading house-made fertilizers, tilling cropland with grazing animals, and irrigating from open creeks.” |

Phil: I am a member of the NJ farm bureau and have been reading and discussing issues about; First migrant workers and the possible legalizing of illegal aliens to improve the aig workforce, my point was there are many here in the local town that first of all are not skilled in Aig. and second don't want to work full time.
Second; The use of GMO crops, seams as though the farm bureau is in part wanting to use these methods along with FDA approval as organic in the future. I was strongly opposed.
FDA and OMRI are at odds with the true organic farmer,we are fighting a uphill battle,it doesn't just affect organic farm methods but also funding for American Farmers. Washington is extremely slow on acting on the American farmers behalf, since the fare trade act we have been decreasing in size every year.Corporate farming has a very large lobby AND is for GMO. I don't know what to say about the article you posted other then farmers and the organic public have to get there voice and votes herd by there representatives.
Two days ago I re-soiled our fields with a combination of composted Horse manure and topsoil for next season, it was beautiful looking soil. I will till it and rake it out and then plant Sudan Grass for a cover crop. That is good Organic practice that has been done for hundreds of years. GMO on the other hand is in it's infancy and hasn't been proven to be safe to the consumer in all cases.
