I planted okra seeds when the ground was warm. The next door neighbors chickens chewed some of it up so I replanted using already started plants. None of the plants, seed or transplants, are taller than 2-3 feet and I have yet to see a flower BUT tonight I harvested pods that are 3-1/2 inches long. I've never had this happen before. Usually the plants are as tall as I am and flowering before they start producing pods. Does this mean I'm not going to get much okra this year?

it got too hot too fast I think. I planted beets AGAIN and I don't know why cuz we never eat them. Johnny orders them when we go out but doesn't want them at home. The greens look pretty in the flower pots though.

good to hear that worked for ya Phil. I planted some last year and will this year if this rain will stop long enough. I think (here anyways) planting early on and kinda on the thick side will produce more results. Last year I noticed lots of pholks planting okra and they all seemed to plant thick rows and not like in a single seed line. Some of mine grew knee high while others grew as tall as I am, why IDK. They all got the same treatment. I even talked to them as they grew and told them they can either produce or don't, I don't care about them, lol. Don't know if they heard me or not but I did get a fair harvest from them. I only wish I had planted more rows. So this year instead of grow many other things in my side yard garden it will be mostly in okra.

Trudy we had a mix of tall and not so tall plants last year also... will be planting more this year, the Somali/African people, which Minnesota has an abundance of..bought em' up last year! but we kept plenty for ourselves
