I have read this several times and decided I had to cut open a persimmon seed and see what it looked like inside. It was fun. I cut open five all with the same pattern inside. There is a persimmon tree about a mile down the road, so I stopped tonight on the way home and picked a few up off the road to try this. (The seed of the persimmon tree, found deep within these fleshy edible fruits were (and still are) used by people in this area to predict the weather for the coming winter. Inside each seed you will find one of three possible outcomes: a knife, a fork or a spoon. If you open the seed to find the knife the winter will be so cold you could cut it with a knife. A fork, and it will be so warm that you could have picnics all through the winter. If you find a spoon, as we did, it means that you will have so much snow that you will be shoveling all winter long.)

I've heard that we're all supposed to have a severe winter. Maybe the persimmon proves it.
