Mrs. H63 got me a portabella mushroom farm...(box) for Christmas. Was supposed to be started on December 25....but we were out of state. Saw it again while watching Super Bowl....and had an "Oh ship" moment. So I opened it up and started it off.......boils down to opening the box, unwrapping the bag in the box, and putting on the "cap". This was my first harvest........ Seems I'm off to a good start. Have done these bag in a box before and gotten a LOT on mushrooms.

real nice Hunter...haven't tried one of the box mushroom kits..may have to get one after seeing your success...bought a 3 pack of plugs once, followed the directions..and got one "questionable" mushroom...questionable because it didn't really resemble any of the types I used...

Where did you get it,brand and how long to grow? Mrs. H63 got it at Stein's a Lawn and Garden place.....but the farm is in Shades Corners....about 20 mile from here, in Wisconsin. rivervalleykitchens.com/They make them up....all you do is open the big bag then take the small bag of "cap" material, Dump it on top, level and kinda pat down a bit.... put the plastic loosely back over it and ...........wait about two weeks. Box/bag good for one batch...but you will get a lot (pounds)of mushrooms. Used to buy the used up bags of compost mix for a buck,.....back when...LOL Not no more.

I do have a shiitke log at "The Place" in the shade behind the shed.... Second one....and does produce a few here and there.
Got it at a local farmers market..... DW asked why I spent $20 bucks for a "stick"......but like the 'shrooms.

Cool, I'm sure there are more than one source...... Says 12 pound kit....and I'm gonna guess that is a very low estimate...
Thanks for posting.
